what do option and command keys do when used together on startup?
it starts up an unusual screen with a sort of wheel?
googling it doesn't show anything i could find...
your help appreciated

Option by itself should bring you to the startup manager (select boot drive). Command-option-P-R is the infamous parameter RAM reset. Command-option alone is nothing by default, but I think it does something in special boot managers. If you don't have on installed, you're probably seeing the startup manager that keeps scanning for boot disks.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
