i want to get rid of old bookmarks

Browser bookmarks? That's a function within your browser (or browsers). In Safari, go to the Bookmarks menu item, select Edit Bookmarks, and then delete them as you wish. Other browsers have similar options - some don't make it as obvious and easy, but they're there.
