WinZip. It's big, clunky, annoying, and does less than free programs.

Wow, I expected more "Windows" responses.

I'd have to agree about IE 5.1 in OSX, but also, there are SO many others that I just can't remember (I have erased the memories from my mind).
Um... nope, can't think of others.
Except the entire MS Ofice suite for windows, every version of it... ugh.
Anyway...

Just a second here, System 6 ruled! It was coded in assembly!

If only Mac OS X were coded in assembly...

Come to think of it, there was this one program a few years back that annoyed the piss out of me. It also SCARED the piss out of me.

Anyone remember this CD-ROM called "Oceans Below"? Well, I do. I remember it caused the first Sad Mac icon I ever saw. Last one too. Boy you should of seen my face when that little thing popped up, I was horrified.

I then broke the disk and threw it into my garbage can.

SimCity 3000 (the Mac version)

Now, this is a fun little game, but the Mac version is a port in the worst possible way. It's slow as hell, and worst of all carries over the Windoze interface.

As far is I'm concerned, on the mac platform, SimCity 2000 was far better.

MS Office, all versions: memory hungry and not as convenient as ClarisWorks for mixing up text with anything else.i work 3 times faster with AW 5 than anyone wanting to make a leaflet mixing text, images and spread sheet on MS Office.
Windows 95, 98, ME: almost impossible to have the latest version unles you buy a brand new PC and, everytime you buy a box, you are sure to get a very buggy version.
AppleWorks 6: the loss of converters is an absolute fault (latest update seems to correct it)

In general, all MS sofware as it adds many components to your system without giving a clue of what they are for.It seems you go into Windows weirdness even if you are on Macintosh.

Concerning games, Faust: it never worked (the CD release was a beta version with errors log and there was never any update in spite of sending errors log to the maker.

Concerning messengers: AIM (for over a year, it still have the same bug: bolding system fonts in spite of many updates.

I must vote for Netscape 6 as well. If thats the final release; I would have enjoyed to see the beta.

This must surely be closely followed by Microsoft WORD. Ever since Version 4 (which was actually good and sortof lean) as of version 5, I cant seem to find anything in the menus anymore. I mean you sit there writing a doc for 5 hours. And then it takes 1 hour to find out how to justify it and change the hyperlinks from blue to black so they print properly. Versions 6 and 2000 just made it worse. Its just so annoying. And SPELL CHECKING? Ha! I run TWO Word 2000's on my mac. One in English and one in French; because switching the damn dictionary never worked properly and easily in either version. Word is just so useless by now, it deserves a golden turkey award.

Finally I also hate AOL. Any software that says "Welcome to AOL"; or "You have Mail" should be piled in a heap, lit and shot with a double barreled shotgun; until its revised...

Ditto peer's comments on above on Netscape 6 and Word.

If you ever feel the need to stay up and want to be challenged, try typing a formal document in Word that has different sections and page breaks AND insert page numbers properly (operative word) AND drawings and charts.

Don't forget to use lots of bullet points and stuff (re. the MS Word doc )

Yeah, I'd have to agree that MS Word is perhaps the worst.
I didn't say it before because technically it works... but it is the very definiton of bloatware and is against everything userfriendly.
Ugh. It tries to do everything for you and is horrrible.
I hate it.

AppleWorks 5 forever!!

This list is not all exactly software only, but close enough.

Netscape 6

WindowsME

Any software that has advert banners

Microsoft File Systems (it's 8.3, it's 255, it's....a buggered CD)

MSWord (I much prefer AW 6 or Lotus Word)

The ZIP compression format.

FaxSTF (extensions from hell)

fdisk.exe (worst partition utility ever)

Darcy.

RealPlayer. Any version. I cannot believe it is the industry standard for anything. It's crap.
I see people poking at AppleWorks and OpenDoc. You are kidding, right?
For my money, AW beats any office app out there. As for OD, I loved every part of it and mourn its demise. I still use it in conjunction with Nisus (Another AMAZING app- document processing does not begin to cover it) and, yes, CyberDog. OD may have been chuggy on 601-603 based systems, but it is great on G3s and 4s.

Yeah, what's wrong with AW6? OK, a clunky button bar and some stability problems at first, but by 6.0.4 it was extremely stable for me. it rocked. the worst piece of software ever?!?!? AW 6? no way!!!

how about the original Windows? that was just sad....

perhaps not a top ranker, but both mactella and limewire are horrible to use. heaven forbid you want to use a different app while they're running. even without provocation they freeze everything for 10 seconds, 20, sometimes a minute or two. java isn't winning any awards with this one.

AppleWorks 6 is not that bad ... I don't see why everyone hates it so much.

I'd have to say ...

Windows (it just sucks)
SC3000 (ditto; you cannot get this thing to run acceptably)

I'll agree with that.

Also, Fortres 101 (security software for Windows), MS Office 2k (even the installer crashes!), Realplayer, and Windows Media Player 7 (6.x was actually pretty good IMHO).

FaxSTF 6 gets special notice indeed. Crashes a lot. Lots of extensions. Proprietary modem scripts (how the hell do I fax with my Nokia mobile Phone?) Good news is that it's free with a new Mac...

Any alternative fax programs? One that will work with my cell phone?

Can't comment on windows software... I just assume it ALL sucks.
Had to use corel draw in win3.1 at a job nine years ago, and hated it. Haven't touched a windows box, since.

Alltime worst on a Mac, add me to the growing chorus chanting Netscape 6 and Realplayer. Both of which did nothing but crash my machine the majority of the time I attempted to launch them. Thank god for icab, and itunes.

Close second: anything written by Aldus. Freehand 4 was totally useless, and Pagemaker is still a mess. Macromedia and Adobe have had their hands full trying to fix these dogs.

third place: Typestyler 2.0 Only crashed my machine exactly every other time I launched it. Like clockwork. Slow as molasses, clunky interface, proprietary file format, with no save as or export options. 3.7 fixed everything, except the clunky interface, so now I'll use it when there's no obvious other choice.

I'd have to say Windows in general but especially 3.11. Being a Graphics person I know it'll tick alot of the "fans" of said software off, but Pagemaker just scares me
