Beyond the rumor sites. Way Beyond.
So which rumor sites are they talking about?

"As the Apple Turns" is a funny site but does it count as a rumor site? I like it for laughs, plus it's updated almost everyday. Site:appleturns.com

"macosrumors" was down for awhile but now they're back in time for MWSF. I always felt they were high on the rumor side and low on the truth side.

Those are the 2 i check out the most besides MacNN. I subscibe to Macworld and MacAddict too. MacNN is more of a forum site with rumors galore. MacNN for the most part posts only real news on their home and lists rumors with the warnings that it's speculation only.

So you think steve checks out this site?

I have wondered about this myself and I really wouldn't be surprised if he did. The forums here offer the most extensive interaction between Mac users found anywhere I assume and him being considered a hard core Mac user...

I don't expect him posting in the forums though as I believe there are people out there that regard their family life more important than I do - and I'm not even a full grown member here yet!!!

Bottom line, yes he drops in from time to time as do all the Mac users in Cupertino - to what extent I really don't know and do not want to guess upon.

Perhaps Apple execs visit MacNN but I bet they don't come within 10 clicks of the lounge.

I'm willing to bet they know about enough of the rumor sites. They probably don't look as "down" upon MacNN as the other sites. We're open enough to "discuss" rumors rather than force them down peoples throats.

I doubt Steve reads MacNN forums. It takes too bloody long! How could he run two seperate companies AND read the stupid things that are posted here? He may have someone who makes a digest for him, but even that would seem unlikely.

Steve Jobs does not need to hear anybody's opinion.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

I would've thought the lounge would be the first place to come if they were looking to see how close to the mark people were coming to guessing or of any hot leaks any new products. It's definitely one of the busiest forums I've seen, and therefore is updated much more regularly than any site can. Albeit a lot of rumours are derived from the sites.

I would probably post the info here first if I had the inside gossip. It would certainly get around quicker than in one of the specialist sections.

I don't start rumour threads, albeit I may speculate on some. I won't ever start a rumour thread (you heard it here), but some of them are quite entertaining.

There's probably some guy like you and I sitting in Cupertino reading through all these posts and printing off all the 'interesting' ones. There's a guy monitoring waht he's posting, because they want double security, and the rest of the Apple campus have a proxy that blocks all the rumour sites and contact e-mail addresses. I will put money on that.

You never know who that mole is in here? Care to guess? You can bet he posts every so often. Might be a bit helpful, but avoids posting anywhere near the rumour/speculation areas.

Shit, if I was Stevo, I'd be in here all the time, dropping crazy ass rumors under one personality and collecting feedback on them (and taking the good ideas). Then under another personality, I'd just be obnoxious. I think if I ran Apple, I would find that highly amusing, jerking us around like that...

Well I know that Steve did jerk someone around before...I believe he and Larry Ellison (The guy from Oracle) learned that a street kid wanted to be CEO of Apple at the time that Steve was still iCEO and not officially taken the title of CEO...anyway, they found out about it and emailed him within minutes of each other telling him he had the job. The kid wrote back thanking him ( this was before Christmas even) and then Steve fired back that if he came within a certain amount of space of the HQ, he would be taken out in handcuffs by the police. A harmless prank but the kid went to the papers with it and it blew up in Steves face. So even if he was jerking us around, lets hope its not like that!!

how about in reverse?

and for the rest of you...

so you're saying steve jobs doesn't surf the web anymore? thats like mr. ford not driving. believe me, steve has a tibook and he surfs a-plenty. whether he comes here is another story. If this is indeed the premier forum site, i think so. i say this only because i'm vain enough to do the same thing in his position.

Hi Guys,
Trust me I always have time to check in on the rumors about me and your/my company makes the day pass so much faster.

The great thing about this place is I can admit I am steve an NO-ONE will believe me.

Anyway I would not put much stock in that iWalk gag. God I had fun seeing the boys set this one up. Anyway gotta go Key notes to write and iNewton's to use.

Cheers Edd
(Your friendly CEO Steve)

[EDIT]Thought you guys might like the iNewton slip so I left it in.. In 4 days it will not matter, and you could not even guess half the iNewton's power at the moment[/EDIT]

[EDIT2]Changed wording after my lawyers asked me to[/EDIT2]

I think that he must take a few minutes in a busy day to read MacNN Forums. Anyway, Hi Steve!!!! Went to the mother ship this summer and waited to shake your hand in the lobby for an hour. You never came out to go to lunch. You must bring your sandwich or something. Anyway, I went next door and bought about $100.00 of caps, t-shirts, pens and the like. Hope it makes you feel better. Have a good keynote on Monday.

I think you just answered your own question there. If I got to go around eating big meals, jetting around the world and getting sucked off by my good looking secretary (ies), I don't think I'd visit here at all. I'd never be at home at all.

"Sorry honey, might be a bit late (three weeks), I'm going to the Carribean with my new secretary to drink cocktails and have a lot of sex."

only if it's vegan sushi, boy-o. And soy milk.

I bet he has lackeys that surf and find the rumors. I don't think appleturns is the site the apple homepage cites, as it usually repurposes other sites rumors in a more humorous way. I think they mean appleinsider, macedition, macosrumors, etc, even though those guys haven't updated in forever.

this doesn't count as a rumor site any more than aol. we're just talking, not publishing. Rumor sites have got to have some credibility to get repeat hits, forums are wild with speculation and wishlists.

while i agree with you on the topic of hardware, the only reason i refuse to use a pc is because it has windows. so if OS X was steve's idea or not, it's still made by his company, and for that i've dedicated a shrine to him.

I don't know for sure whether or not Steve check's this site out or not, but I do know that he checks his email. Back in '95 or '96 my dad "stumbled" across his email address (before the NeXT aquistion) and I sent him a email thanking him for starting Apple. He replied back personally (I was shocked) and I didn't send another email to him since. Unfortunately, I had forgotten what he had said, but I remember it being along the lines of "thanks, Apple was fun." There was obviously more to it then that, but I can't remember and we didn't archive the message.

Another former Apple fame I ran across was John Sculley in 2000. I met him when he came to Edmonton to give a seminar on technology and the internet. He signed a picture for me along with the words:

"To Trentent,
With warm regards to a real Mac fanatic!
John Sculley"

Maybe I'll scan it and post it one day...

But if Steve does read these forums, and if he does remember me, I'm sure he'll hate me for life letting that tidbit slip
Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction.
