Anyone else participating in the pre-launch? I played a few of the betas, and I had a blast. It was really fun. Looking forward to tomorrow, assuming I get my early access invitation.

MMOs are rough. And much like the rest of NN, the vocal crowd is ...lacking.

When it becomes Free to Play, I'll check it out. If it doesn't then I'll miss it. Would like to give it a shot though, as I do love Bioware games a lot.

Star Trek Online is going Free to Play in January. I'm going to check it out when it does.

It's odd that people draw so many comparisons between World of Warcraft and Star Wars, yet I never liked World of Warcraft and I'm having so much fun on Star Wars. Maybe it's the lack of internet memes, cupcakes, and chicken courting.

Thought about it, but it would be short lived which doesn't really work for MMOs. Looking eagerly ahead to D3.

If it weren't for the queues, I'd be playing right now.

Looks like they have some issues to work out.

Right now your best option is to buy a copy of Windows and use Boot Camp on your Mac. You don't need to install a new HDD, Boot Camp will safely partition your existing one.

I can safely say that it runs more than acceptable on my 13" MacBook Pro at low settings. Make sure you turn off Shadows because there's a known bug with the Intel graphics card in the 13" MacBook Pro.

Even at low settings I'm amazed how good the game looks and plays.

For now, don't hold your breath for a Mac port. Even on Windows there are significant bugs with the game. A lot of them, actually. Nothing that's deterred me from playing it, and they're fixing them fast. Chalk it up to growing pains for a new MMO and an extremely aggressive release date.

I am running Windows 7 64x on a early 2008 15" Macbook Pro, 2.5Ghz 6MB Cache 8600M GT with 512MB or Video Ram. Game is smooth with graphics maxed out with the exception of Shaders being off and x2 AA.

Bootcamp is the only way to game on a Mac, crossover and virtual environments suck for games.

Windows 7 + iTunes + xfire + SWTOR on max settings after hours of play does over heat my Macbook though. I solved that by placing a fan beside the computer to remove heat. But I'm pushing a 4 year old Macbook pretty hard.

Wouldn't it be more honest to just say you don't game?

Must be pretty basic games to work under virtualization or crossover because nether do 3D acceleration well.

Sounds like you could use one of these.

You said this: "Bootcamp is the only way to game on a Mac," which I disputed.

You should try a recent version of Parallels or Wine, you might be surprised.

A game that doesn't rely on zero latency - ie, anything not a shooter - works pretty well virtualized. I play Civ and Sins that way for hours at a time, and when I quit I'm always surprised to find the friendly Mac interface over the Bootcamp virtualization. I also know that many shooters, including Skyrim, work well under Wine.

i agree that your statement was true a few years ago, but quiet a lot has happened recently. Extended Page Tables alone made a HUGE difference.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Given that WINE runs apps natively using reverse engineered Windows DLLs, WINE 3D performance is pretty much the same as native Windows 3D performance except for the fact it runs in 32 bit mode.
