Every fall I grow a beard, to help keep my face warm in winter. Then in the spring I shave it off, to help keep my face cool in summer.
But I always have a mustache, mainly because the skin of my upper lip gets a nasty rash if I shave it.
So, what's the state of your facial fur?

I have what I consider a "nicely-trimmed" beard, but a co-worker recently commented that it straddled the line between "mountain-man" and "America-hating". Go figure.

If I could keep a light shadow 24/7 year round I would be incredibly happy. I hate being newly shaven, and I hate having several days growth.

I love being newly shaven, it's the best. Unfortunately, it doesn't last much longer than 12 hours, and I have to wait at least 4-5 days before shaving again (I get a terrible rash if I try sooner - not to mention that if I try shaving too soon, it ends up looking like the Bloodbath of Stockholm)... So 'it varies'.

Please stop doing that immediately. That 'chin-triangle' thing just simply does not look good. Just shave it all off - unless you have some big, disfiguring scar on your chin, it can only improve your looks.

Sideburns, big ass goatee , and a lot of time recently, the "have not shaved in a week" look in-between. (See Fig. 3b)

"Nicely trimmed beard" says it well. I had to shave for twenty-three freakin' years, but no more. I haven't even had a haircut since January.

The only down side is that my beard is a lot whiter than my hair. It just doesn't seem to match. Ah well. At least I have a beard.

My job won't allow me to grow facial hair (except for a moustache). They say it's so we convey an approachable image. Personally, I think moustaches (by themselves) tend to make men look like pedophiles. Therefore, I have no facial hair.

Really? I don't see it.

Personally, I think being totally clean-shaven makes a guy look more like a pedophile. Michael Jackson, for example.

While in the Air Force, I was not allowed to grow a mustache like Teddy Rosevelt's (it couldn't go wider than the corners of the mouth, or hang over the edge of the lip), but try as I might, I could never get the suave, pencil-thin mustache look (as in the picture of Vincent Price). That resulted in a lot of aborted mustaches!

Now, I'm working on keeping the "well groomed" look going. Before I started trimming it, my beard looked like I'd just been found in a hole in the desert. One fantastic lady barber later, and I had an idea of how it should look, and how to keep it looking good.

Besides, I'm a scientist (it says so on my diploma), so I should have a beard to stroke when I think those deep thoughts...

Heh, thanks for the advice, but I think I look like a kid without any facial hair. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that it's not my thing (looking like a little kid). Maybe when I'm older

Was considering shaving today... and had the very same question. So I left it all. More important things too... now, where did I leave that cookie.

I have a cousin who retired from the Navy a few years ago. He now looks like a roadie for the Grateful Dead.

Me? Shaven (though I skip a day here and there most of the time).

My wife likes the goatee and I like shaving what little is left over. When it starts to show some grey hairs I will probably shave it off.

Being half Mexican I still have some bare patches on my cheeks, so I will never be able to grow a full beard.

I have big sideburns and shave maybe once a week, or two. Sometimes I let it become an almost beard, and then shave of part for a goatee or mustache with soul patch look.

Right now the unshaven look is everywhere, so I can finally get away with it.

i am not too disciplined at all (i squat houses but at least i shave my face every morning.

i dont understand the popularity of the goatie. it must be the easiest facial hair to grow. add some pencilstrokes and its finished. anyway it looks pathetic. however, i like big fat moustaches and big sideburns.

Well, as long as my nostrilhairs are short, and no hair is coming out of my ears I'm a happy guy

But no, if I shave to often I end up with dry and red skin, so I tend not to do it - just over the face with the hairtrimmer and I'm ok...
The gene pool needs cleaning - I'll be the chlorine.
