I remember taking my "vintage" 10gig iPod three years ago when no one had one. Everybody was like, wow.

The damn things are everywhere now. I counted no less than seven people on the bus this morning with them.

I want to be cool again

I know what you mean. I'm a security guard at the local mall and every day i see a bunch of iPods, tons of white headphones. I saw the other day a group of 13 year olds, one had a 20 gig 4G, and two others had minis. I never got stuff like that when I was a kid. I think I'm going to get a Treo 650 when my contract is up in May, don't see any of those around, just a 600 every now and then.

Here in Perth, everyone has one...or so it seems.

I'd say 90% of ppl at my gym with any sort of music players have iPods. It's cool n all... but i know what you mean..... hehehe.

I just saw this really crappy commercial here down under as well. it's advertizing an MP3/photo player...that looks a lot like an iPod....5GB selling for AUD$479 or something like that.... and i got my 20GB iPod 4G for AUD$450 (w/ student discount) lol..... Apple is pretty darn far ahead.

I hope the next iPod is an iPod AV or something....u can watch movies/videos/photos when you hook it upto a TV. that would be the ultimate iLife companion..... and id probably upgrade to a new mac and iPod when that happens. hehehe

iPods just aren't cool around where I live. No one at my gym has one except me, I see people still using Walkmans and cd players. One guy asked what kind of player I had, he didn't even know what an iPod was.

i agree with ryaxnb. they are now very common but this doesnt mean that they arent cool. they have just lost the power to wow most of the population. dont forget that with the worlds population distrobuted as it is i bet over 60% dont know what apple is let alone ipods.

im sorry but i say even though they are common as fcuk (spelt differantly) they are still cool

Here in Germany they are very rare. I don't have one and I have only ever seen somebody with an iPod twice in my life.

iPods ARE cool now, that is why you are seeing them everywhere.

What you want is UNIQUE, and unique doesn't have market share or make a lot of money. You could ways buy one of those "other" players to be unique.

Does that mean you won't want a mac if everyone got one?

I would say 1/10 people have them on the Metro on the way in in the morning. It's a little frightening to be honest.

Yeah, surprisingly, you see a LOT of iPods in the downtown Vancouver area. Even up to a year ago, they were pretty infrequent but it seems like now most anyone listening to music is on an iPod or derivative of sort.

We need an APU appreciation foundation. 4 out of 5 loungers lol at every APU post.

It seems lately that color screen is the new cool. iPods come up in conversations at work or elsewhere, and the question of whether you own an iPod or iPod photo is inevitably asked (oohs and aahhs if you answer iPod Photo).

No kidding! The "I had one years before you even heard of the iPod" iPod in the face of all these newbies. Now, even 3G people have more cred! Those 4G iPods are everywhere.

I wouldn't go that far, but I do fear as people switch from Windows, the door for malware will open and we'll have more less-knowledgeable people using them, making the cool and elite factor non-existant.

I go to school in an upper-middle-class suburban neighborhood, and everybody friggin' has them. One day I counted 40, and of course I'm assuming there were plenty that I didn't see. I walked by a group of three girls once, and all three of them were discussing how their dads wrapped their iPods for Christmas. Jeezes!

I travel a lot, and I've only seen two people with iPods. I do see white headphones, but they're always for Nokia's music phones.

I see white headphones and iPods all over campus. There has been a great deal of Shuffles around lately too.

I didn't buy my ipod because it was "cool". I bought it because I enjoy having all my music with me. Whether it's "cool" or not doesn't matter to me.

Man are you a rebel.

The only thing that makes someone "cool" in my book is having the ability to not care what other people think about them. Follow your own road. See something you like? Stop and enjoy.

as the second ipod owner in my school with the 2g 10gb i feel like they are getting common now that nearly 90% of the school has one.

and along the lines on macs becoming more wide spread. it would be nice because there will be less peoplegiving arguements. however i do like the "elitest" feeling of been a mac user. with so many others not having one
