OK, I know you're just trolling for responses like this, but...
Ewwwwww... 10 lbs! Ridiculous! You'd think they'd stuff a bigger battery into that thing at that weight... but it only gets 2 hours by the manufacturer's spec. The sad thing is that number is always exaggerated. Not to mention it's nearly an inch bigger on each dimension (1.8 inch height) over the 17" PB. It also has slightly lower screen resolution and a weaker graphics card. You'd think they would be able to come at least CLOSE to matching the 17" PB?!
Try again, Wintel manufacturers!

No competition for the 17" powerbook weight wise. What where the thinking? Now all the costumers have to buy one of those laptop "bags" with little wheels.
It doesn't run OSX and damn! do something about the looks of those hideous looking machines.

All I can say is, "Wow."
By the time Toshiba catches up with this Apple machine, I'll be running a G5 PB...

These two things are ugly as sin. But I actually like the GRT Sony's. They are proper desktop replacers, feature DX9 graphics and TV tuners. And most importantly they are fast as hell, which can't be said about the powerbooks unfortunately.
Roll on the G5!

Wow... reminds me of the "toilet seat" iBook.
I haven't seen a PC that fugly in quite some time. Competition for the PB 17? Yeah... riiiiight.

You know what I can't stand is that every review of the 17" I have seen always focuses on how large it is, but never plays up how little it weighs in comparison to most regular 15" pc notebooks and these new 17's also. It is remarkable that apple was able to make it so large, yet reasonably weighted. I used to have an old toshiba satellite pentium 120, 1.2 gb HD and an 11.3" passive matrix screen. It weighed 10 lbs. How is that for advancement?

Finally a Toshiba notebook can live up to it's Satellite name. (weight- and dimension-wise)

According to the Satellite P25 Key Features box on the above Web site, it features only the following wireless technology:
* Integrated Wi-Fi (802.11a/b)
There is no 802.11(g), but instead 802.11(a), which is incompatible with the prevailing 802.11(b) frequency band.
According to this posting on Forbes.com,
While Apple has embraced Wi-Fi and its follow-up technology IEEE 802.11g, Jobs is on record as saying he considers 802.11a to be a dead end.
I'm glad I got a 17-inch PowerBook.

Not that this makes any difference in the long run (I'd still never consider a notebook like the Acer or Toshiba)... but it can go up to 2GB memory... look at your first link, under the "Smooth Move" section:
Up to 2 GB of memory promotes more efficient operation

I'm sure if it were on some geosynchronous orbit it would seem very light.

well, wifi 802.11(a/b) implies that this laptop accepts dual band cards that is compatible with both a and b. in 54mbps 802.11a networks it will function at full speed, and in 802.11b networks it will also be compatible at 11mbps...
Definitely not 802.11g, but offers similar functionality.

I am confused by this... they list 40, 80, or 120 GB as possible configurations for the hard drive on a laptop...
correct me if i'm wrong, but the largest laptop hard drive that is available today is the 80 GB "pixie-dust" version put out by IBM/Hitachi...
Where does 120 GB come from?
Either... they're using DESKTOP drives in this monster, or they're putting 2 60 GB laptop drives in it.
sheesh.

Yep, good point. There are no 120GB 2.5" HDs. If there were, I'd have one in my PB 12.
