Got this from another Mac board....

I sure hope this is just a rumor... According to this German site, the G5's that already shipped are called back!

http://www.macnews.de/index.php?_mcnpage=7492&

Loose translation..." As we experienced, the supplies of the first PowerMacs G5-Rechner are to have been withdrawn: The devices already were by forwarding business on the way, but for a not more near well-known reason the distribution of the power Nac G5-Modelle with 1.6 GHz was stopped. Whether it thereby around an individual defect acts or whether a technical problem with the computers exists is still unclearly. A statement of Apple is not present us."

Anyone else heard anything on this?????

Wow, at least it's just the 1.6Ghz machine. and it's better they catch it new rather than later. I was always thinking that the 1.6 model architecture was only going to be seen in the first run of machines.

A post onAI states its something to do with the case and the side door not fitting propperly, if so it will affect all models, not just the 1.6.

If it's true then the "Don't buy Rev A" brigade will be out in force.

Well, I cancelled my G5 for a G4 this morning, and just shorted Apple shares (as in, I make money if they go down). Call me evil, but I'm hoping this is right.

I'm also hoping this is just the 1.6Ghz, because while (approx) 25,000 people wanting to kill me I can cope with, all 100,000 pre-orderers would be a little extreme...

I think making a stock market move based on random sourceless rumors...found in of all places a Mac forum (the mac community is known for off the wall rumors)..is QUITE extreme...

Good luck chief,

Yeah, I'm losing money so far... err... about $2 in fact. Not dealing in large amounts, can you tell?

In retrospect, given the general luck I have with the stock market, Apple will probably shortly announce they've shipped all 100,000 pre-ordered G5s, causing the share price to shoot through the ceiling.

I keep thinking I want to invest some money into Apple. I guess I should have a couple months ago with the whole Vivendi thing.

I've decided not to invest in companies in to which I have an irrational acceptance, or affinity. Apple falls under this category.

I never pass the opportunity to brush up on my German.

Translation of the article:

"Apple recalls the Power Mac G5

We've heard that the initial shipment of PowerMac G5s have been recalled and that the 1.6ghz Power Mac G5 is no longer shipping. It's unclear whether or not the recall is due to technical problems with the hardware. There has been no official statement from Apple."

That's what rumor sites are for, aren't they?

Anyway, other sites report the G5's aren't actually recalled, but a problem was in fact found at the end of the assembly process. In that case it would mean not much more than another delay in shipment. Which is bad enough, of course.

The only one that could confirm this, is Apple. And they most probably will not comment.

Well, you do have to wonder why models have not reached the store yet. This is still just a rumor nonetheless.

If Apple is recalling the 1.6-GHz G5's, then it must be the quietest recall ever. If Apple were recalling the G5, it would have something in its press release library, but the most recent release is that the single-processor Power Mac G5's are shipping.

In any case, even if there was a problem, I doubt that Apple would recall them unless the problem was extremely serious. The bad press that would plague Apple after a recall is not what they need. It would basically negate the "good vibes" left over from the initial introduction of the G5.

I hope this is only a rumor... I imagine people expecting these machines would've received an email or something to confirm it.
