What do you think of the new Belkin Digital Camera Link for iPod? Works with 3G iPods and lets you connect your camera to the iPod via USB to xfer pictures instead of using the media cards directly. Looks pretty slick.

Im really happy about this. I dont know how much their card reader is, but this at $90 is pretty cheap. and would rather get one of these than take my iBook on holiday to download pictures to.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

The old one you took out your CF card et al from your camera and put it in a slot on the reader; this one you plug your camera into the reader directly using the same USB cable that you would use to plug into your Mac.

I was actually considering buying one of these for an upcoming semester in florence where I am not planning on taking my powerbook. I have read that the transfer is extremely slow (not at firewire speeds). Does anyone actually have one of these that can comment? It would be great to only carry a 40 gig ipod for both music and pictures for the whole 4 months without having to worry about using a computer cafe to burn my pics onto cds.

Anyone using this or have any suggestions as to what is the most cost effective way to archive my photos while abroad?

Thanks

I got it and it does not work at all. Their directions are horrible!!

Avoid!!! Just invest in extra memory media which I am going to do!!

Does it still suck?

Macworld says it doesn't work with my Canon G2. The compatibility list doesn't include my G2 as tested, nor does it include my Canon EOS 20D. However, it does say it should work in PTP mode for the G2. I wonder if Macworld did that.

So I guess for me it's out unless someone can tell me otherwise.

BTW, does anyone use this with the iPod mini?

YOu'd be better off bringing a laptop with you. A lot better option, even if all you do is load photos into it.

I'd rather spend the money on extra memory. A 1 GB card (or 2 512s) holds a lot of pics, is the size of a postage stamp, and is less likely to malfunction. Erase the pics you don't intend to use. If you're on the road and run out of room, borrow or rent a computer and transfer them to CDs or DVDs.
