I just bought a 12 inch Powerbook for basic video/audio editting and such (I'm a film student).I will also be using it to take notes in class. I am thinking about leaving it plugged in during class, and taking the battery out to preserve it's life as much as possible. Can anyone recommend a blank "spacer" type thing that would prevent the notebook from having a hole at the bottom that would make it unsteady on my lap?

I haven't seen any battery bay blanks for 12" PowerBooks.

Leaving a fully charged battery in while on the charger won't do much to the battery. As long as you have at least one full battery cycle per month, it should be fine.

I'm just concerned with how much heat the battery is exposed to. I rememebr from electronics class that LiIon batteries degrade over time due to exposure to heat. Hence why cold recharge stations are preferable over "hot" ones.

never seen that before, but what if you make one yourslef (a spacer, not a battery...).
a piece of plastic/wood with something around would to the trick.
of course, it's not very classy...

Remember if you are without a battery in place, date and time info will be lost within a short period of time. (Even if you turn off the PB after use). I tried to use my 12" this way and find it troublesome.

You should be fine if you have the power plugged in.
