Please help.
I'm still rather new to OS X, and I need guidance. I want an icon on my desktop that will open a url in Safari. Can this be done?
I normally run Firefox, but this particular website needs to be opened in Safari to load properly.

In Safari click the small site-icon to the left of the URL in the addressbar of Safari and drag this icon onto your desktop (alternatively you can also drag it into the Dock if you want to).

1. Open Safari and go to the address you desire.
2. Drag the favicon next to the address to the desktop.
3. There is no step three.

Thanks for bein' so quick guys!
I tried this, and it did create the icon, BUT, it insists on opening in Firefox, even after I change the 'open with" to Safari and clicking the "always open with" check box...? Am I missing something?

Open the general Safari preferences and change your default web-browser from Firefox to Safari.

Instead of double clicking it, drag and drop it to the Safari icon.

Also, why not just bookmark it within Safari or make it the home page if it is all you are going to use Safari for?

Get Info > Open With > Safari
[edit] Heh, just realised you already tried that. Sometimes, I should read posts properly before I reply
