The score for Brokeback was a good one.

I'm disappointed though that the score for Narnia was not even nominated. It was excellent and easily as good as the 5 nominees.

why?

I think Billy Crystal and Steve Martin did much better.

Stewart's opening monologue was weaker than Letterman's

He seems to be relaxing a bit more now though

If you watch enough of his interviews and appearances you'll begin to see things about him that don't sit well. Arrogant. Smug. Something just doesn't sit well with me and apparently others when it comes to him.

But giving the devil his due, he does have talent.

Yeah, even thought I really can't stand the guy he is one of my favorite actors.

Still, that bit he did at the beginning about how he's glad Hollywood is out of touch with the real world because of all the things they change in the world like racism, was a bit much. In fact it was the most idiotic thing I've heard in a long ass time.

Best speech of the night!

Everyone hates actors/athletes/anybody with an opinion... Unless they agree with the person's opinions. Bravo to the guy for saying what he believes instead of spewing more canned crap that'll sit well with middle 'Merica.

What are you talking about? His speech was not about his opinions. He said he is glad to be out of touch with reality because people like him ("Hollywood") change the world (paraphrased).

That's precisely what people are talking about when they criticize people like him ("Hollywood") for being out of touch. He isn't changing a thing.

I'm not sure he really said that. I don't know where one might find a full transcript of what he said but heres a quote that I found:

"We are a little bit out-of-touch in Hollywood. I think that's probably a good thing. We are the ones who talked about AIDS when it was only being whispered ... We talked about civil rights ... I'm proud to be part of this Academy, proud to be part of this community, proud to be 'out of touch."'

EDIT heres what he said:
"Wow. Wow. All right, so I'm not winning director. It's the funny thing about winning an Academy Award, it will always be synonymous with your name from here on in. It will be Oscar winner, George Clooney. Sexiest Man Alive, 1997. Batman, died today in a freak accident at a -- Listen, I don't quite know how you compare art. You look at these performances this year, of these actors and unless we all did the same role, everybody put on a bat suit, and we'll all try that. Unless we all did the same role, I don't know how you compare it. They are stellar performances and wonderful work, and I'm honored, truly honored to be up here. And finally, I would say that, you know, we are a little bit out of touch in Hollywood every once in a while. I think it's probably a good thing. We're the ones who talk about AIDS when it was just being whispered, and we talked about civil rights when it wasn't really popular. And we, you know, we bring up subjects. This Academy, this group of people gave Hattie McDaniel an Oscar in 1939 when blacks were still sitting in the backs of theaters. I'm proud to be a part of this Academy. Proud to be part of this community, and proud to be out of touch. And I thank you so much for this."

Talking is not the same as changing, there are some people who have a problem with what he has to say and what those before him had to say as illustrated by the quote.

Does Clooney honestly think Hollywood were the 1st and only people to care about aids and racism? Does he really? Yes, yes he does, and he was using those two issues as mere examples.

Arrogant? Check.
Idiotic? Check.
Out of touch with reality? Check.

Next year. I think they go by the calendar year. Besides they had to develop the segment and probably completed it before these actors departed.

I am positive, next year. Count on it.

What's with cutting off the best picture winning producers? I know that sometimes they have to give a short time to the small categories. But for the big prizes, the winners should get a lot more time for their speeches.

Regarding Best Picture, who was shocked that Crash won over Brokeback Mountain? I don't think the movie even had Best Director nods.

Overall, it was a good show. Opening skit has its funny moments. Jon Stewart did an okay job. But the direction wasn't that good though. No Emmy for you Oscar!!!

Hollywood does get major attention in all these issues because they have have the attention in the world and carry so much influence. I don't think they want to be the only one's that care about all the issues but they may have a few radicals that want it to be.

Sadly they do give smaller fund-raisers a major disadvantage since all the big shots have all the Hollywood and major mogul and celebrity interests. Which therefore may make regular people donate to the massive charities, leaving the smaller ones with less money.

I watched the whole show for the first time in a few years. Everyone said this was a down year at the box office, and the numbers prove it, but I enjoyed more films this year than in a long time. Plus we had beautiful women in high definition, so it doesn't get any better than that.

George Clooney is the freakin' man. That is all I have to say about him, and the insanely great movies he's responsible for. Plus, he's got some classy styles goin on.

I believe I saw all the movies except for the foreign offerings. It's gotta be a first.

Joaquin Phoenix might've acted and sung quite like Johnny Cash, but I felt he didn't have Cash's charisma. Call me crazy. Then, watch Capote and tell me Phillip Seymour Hoffman didn't do a jaw-droppingly impressive job. I still feel he's one of the greatest character actors in Hollywood.

Biggest Crime: Good Night, and Good Luck did not win hardware. I personally think it's the best movie of the year, and is certainly without a doubt the most gorgeous slice of film in recent memory. As an amateur photographer it simply makes me weep, it's so beautiful. While the story does have some inconsistencies, I feel Clooney should've gotten Best Director over Ang Lee for this movie. The fact that he won for Syriana is a bit of a downer for me, since that was an inferior movie.

I was surprised they gave it to Crash, I would have prefer Munich and for director George Clooney.

By the way Don Knotts died in 2006 not 2005.
