Eddie is having problems with the hooch. Lost/dropped most of his endorsement deals. I hear he has bouts of assholness all the time.

Sad.

sorry to say, IMO — DLR and SH were way more important to the "sound" of VH than he is.

also, his "sound" was over in 1991 — he should be lucky he goes to any parties at all

APU meh... Eddie wrote most of the music etc. Not sure there would have been a band had it not been for his talents....

The scout the picked them up said the very same thing.

He looks as good as most 51 year old has-been rock stars.
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

How depressing. Keith Richards must have a hundred years over Eddie, and he looks better.

Let's see - here's a count of the problems he's had over the last 25 years.

-repeated bouts of alcoholism and chemical dependency.
-cancer (still smokes too - he won't last too long).
-his wife left when he went back to the bottle.
-his record label dropped the band when it was clear EVH had lost it.

He, unfortunately, is his own worst enemy.

He did start golfing and working out after his cancer went into remission
which is a good sign, but hit the bottle heavily on the last tour and was
smoking like a stack. This is what caused his cancer in the first place.

Allan Holdsworth is older and looks a lot better than Eddie (and playing
better too I'm afraid).

i am aware of that — but I still think DLR and SH's vocals or whatever they brought to the group made it "click". especially DLR...

You think DLR and SH made Van Halen?! Jeez. Come on now. That's a crock of crock. They sang, and that was about it, really.

I hate Van Halen, anyway. Worst lyrics in the history of lyrics, and too cheesy for words. Ugh. Truly, a band full of stupid people.

I heard from some people who saw the last VH tour that Eddie just looked out of it the whole time. A few of them left early because the show was so bad.

They said that Eddie looked like he was drunk and had no teeth... some speculated he was probably doing meth (because of the tooth loss thing.)

I think:

Cheese Rock + Lead Singer Personality = Van Halen

Take out LSP and you have unsucessful VH.

Ahhhhhhh, well I completely agree with you there. However you said "sound" in your original post. I don't think DLR or SH significantly contributed to the Van Halen sound besides their voices. Contributing to Van Halen's success through their personalities is another story.

I still have circa 1983-1987 Van Halen in my memories. Good ones. Driving way too fast in my friend's Mustang, cranking 1984 or Women and Children First. Those were some great times. It's sad to see Eddie in this shape. Not so great times.

Dunno about that. I happened to hear "Jump" live off their last compilation album with Sammy Hagar singing and it was just plain awful... David Lee Roth's voice was definitely "instrumental" in creating the Van Halen sound...

Richards got false teeth and has a coiffure.

He still smokes so I don't give Keith long.

They always publish pictures where people look bad. Anyone can look bad, ANYONE!

it's hard to describe but from what I remember when I was a kid listening (and enjoying) to this music — there was a certain something that DLR and SH performed the songs.

i can't qualify this opinion but IMO, they struck gold with DLR and they struck it again with SH and without them VH sucks
