I dunno if this has been discussed before in this forum but I couldn't help it. (some of you are just gonna get sick of my rantings) I just saw a pic of a new build of Vista and it had programs called "Gadgets". That is exactly the same as Widgets!! Also this new feature "Flip3D" is like Expose but isn't as good. The search logo is just reversed from OS X! I really hope Apple sues Microsuck for this.

Apple won't sue because they know they'll lose.
Also, Apple "stole" the idea from Konfabulator who stole the idea from blah, who stole the idea from foo... mini-applications are not a new idea.

I wish they'd steal more features - like the core stability, security, ease of use, prettiness, etc., etc.. Then I could steal a copy and run it on cheapo homebrew hardware.

The idea and philosophy behind them was identical to today's widgets.

But Apple didn't really see a market for them until Konfabulator was doing well. Interesting.

Leopard, the fifth iteration of OSX will be years ahead of Vista when it finally starts shipping, so dont worry too much. Apple should hopefully release it before Vista. be ready for some major UI changes imo.
Cheers

One could argue:
Gadgets, widgets whatever are ripoffs of stardocks desktopx, which was out before OS X and obviously out before vista. Expose could be said to be a ripoff of the 'cascade all windows' function in windows, and I'm sure a magnifying glass is pretty universal for meaning search, no matter what angle it's at.

While you can't claim that Apple didn't rethink the idea after Konfabulator, the "widgets" were already apart of NeXT, which Apple bought. I'm sure they saw Konfabulator and thought, "Hey, we had something like that in NeXT. We should bring it back."

I bet they don't steal the "feature" where OS X redates all of your files when you copy them.
