Hello all,
I'm looking at getting something shipped from the US to Japan, but am not really sure in the difference of the shipping options. Here's what I've got a choice of:
UPS Worldwide Express: $45.74
FedEx International Priority: $37.59
US Postal Service: Global Express: $41.42
And for a different (heavier) product:
UPS Worldwide Express: $53.93
FedEx International Priority: $50.86
US Postal Service: Global Express: $52.61
What's the difference? How many days difference in delivery would I be talking between them?
Thanks.

What is the value of what you are shipping?

Are you going to use a door to door service? Fedex takes about 1 business day..but so does DHL and it is just a tad cheaper than Fedex.

FedEx is preferred by myself because I know the CEO's personal assistant (she's a friend) and I can get anything taken care of if there is a problem.
HOWEVER, with that much said, DHL is WAYYYYY cheaper than anyone else except for USPS media mail - which is the least - but you can only mail media (books, CDs, magazines) with media rate.
UPS just sucks, period, for delivery times, prices, and if you have a claim or a loss? Forget it because you'll be screwed over after developing high blood pressure.

The PO by me sends their Global Express packages via FedEx.
So, I'd rather just go to FedEx and cut out the middle man.
From my experience shipping ~5 pounds to Saitama, Niiza, FedEx takes about 2 days, Global Express takes about 3 days.
But I'd ask FedEx for more exact info and avoid the PO at all cost.

It's pretty simple, in my experience:
FedEx - When it needs to get there.
UPS - When it needs to get there with a bunch of dirt on it. (There's a reason they wear brown!)
DHL - When it has to get there on the cheap.

Fedex. No doubt.
Just tried to get a quote on DHL. Their quote website is broken, doesn't recognize ZIP codes. Whatever.

BTW, you can get discounts if being a member of something.
E.g., USAA members get up to 28% discount on Fedex.
Google for "Fedex discount" and see, maybe you'll find something that works for you.

I prefer FedEx. The drivers are truely interested in delivering your packages. In my expereince, UPS drivers don't give a hoot. They work 9 to 5 and if you don't get it, maybe the next day or the next. They don't seem to care as much as FedEx.
