Can you use the old airport card insted of an extream airport card, because I have my old airport from my imac and I would like to see if It would work with a 12" Imac.

You can't.
Airport Extreme use a different connection interface.

I think that you can get a refurb AE card from apple for $89. I have seen refurb cards at smalldog.com for as low as (I believe) $75.00

Unfortunately you can't use them interchangeably, however keep an eye at www.macmall.com as they have had refurb. ones there before for $66, in which I got mine for my 12" PB.
