Yeah, KarlG, don't you love it?
How do I do all those things at the same time?
Right now I'm watching television, writing, watching an eBay auction, AND reading MacNN.

Interesting. Arnie does what his voters want, the Austrians hassle him for it.
Austria votes in Joerg Haider, the EU say they can't so they get rid of him and have someone else in charge.
Seems the Austrians don't believe in democracy. So nowt much has changed since April 1889 then.

Are you sure you have that chain of events down right?
I mean, as much as Haider is a fascist meatbag...

Arnie's political future is uncertain - and that's being polite about it. Clemency would have cost him his office, most likely.
I don't know enough about then Tooki case to have an opinion (apart from my general opposition to the death penalty - not so much for humanitarian reasons but for the fact that we have had too many miscarriages of justice and a dead man is hard to resurrect).
The Austrians have every right to call their stadiums whatever they like. Arnie has every right to not particularly care. I have every right to think he's not the sharpest tool in the box.

Here's a little political science lesson for you. Although Arnold probably would have commuted his sentence he couldn't. Arnold appointed a very liberal liberal as lieutenant governor and got in deep sh!t with his base. Saving Tookie would have been his end as it would expose that his wife was running the show.
Tookie is in heaven now for those children's books so everyone wins. Arnold, Tookie, the children, the Austrians etc.

I don't think he's worried. I mean, it's not like he'll miss the pay cheque, is it?

I don't think he's in politics for the money. If I would hazard a guess, I'd say it's a power thing. But I have never met the man, so a guess is the best I can give.
Truth be told, I think it was a pretty brain dead idea to name stadium after him in the first place. Not belittling what he has achieved, from small town Austria to Governator is a pretty steep hill, but what's the relevance for the local populace? Name it after a local nurse, sportsman or teacher and you'll have something that's both inspiring and relevant.

IT doesn't prove anything cody except that they are just as liberal as those who glorified Tookie here in the states.
I believe Arnold did the right thing.

Depends on how you feel about the death penalty. If the Austrians in Arnie's hometown truly see it as barbaric, it would have been hypocritical for them to go ahead with their stadium plans.

Screw that tiny, insignificant Austrian town that nobody has heard of.
In reality, it is Arnold who has terminated them. They are no longer permitted to use his name when advertising for their town. They have used his name in the past to get tourists.
"In all likelihood, during my term as governor, I will have to make similar and equally difficult decisions. In order to spare the responsible politicians of the city of Graz further concern, I withdraw from them as of this day the right to use my name in association with the Liebenauer Stadium. ... I expect the lettering to be removed by the end of 2005, and in the future, the use of my name to advertise or promote the city of Graz in any way is no longer allowed.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,179296,00.html
I hope he sues their asses, if they use him name in the future in any way, shape or form whatsover.

European countries with their death penalty stance are full of ****. Today Germany released a convicted terrorist guilty of killing a US serviceman during a plane hijacking a couple of decades ago. They let him go, he's 100% free. If Europe had the death penalty then they wouldn't be able to release these people in the future.
