I don't remember reading any posts from anyone with dead or stuck pixels on their MacBook Pro, pretty much the consensus is the display is great. Has anyone received a MacBook Pro with any dead or stuck pixels?

Yes, I have a red one almost in the middle of the screen Is there a good way to get it out? I usuall do not notice, unless there is a light background.

I had a little red dot on my powerbook and I used that muti-flashing color widget thing, ran it overnight and its gone - atleast for now!

I have a stuck pixel. It's blue, and about an inch up and right of center. :/

@mintcake: I think macboy means the "PixelFix" widget.

I had assumed it was because now in 2006 maybe everyone had gotten smarter and realized that dead pixels in LCD displays are a fact of life. Guess I was wrong.

i dont have a mbp but i did see the demo model in the store which had a dead pixel.

i have a pb17" with a pixel perfect screen and i was blissful when i couldnt find any dead pixels.

i have a sharp lcd which had a bright pixel and it just went away after a while... and then when i used it alot one weekend i noticed two green pixels appear... then they went away too... ughhh lol... its a funny technology but i guess it is better to have some bright ones than dead ones... because the dead ones will stay dead from what i know.

cheers and good luck with pixels!

I have one stuck pixel (red) about a quarter of the way down the screen, just to the right of center. I'll have to try that PixelFix widget. BTW, my MBP is absolutely silent and the *only* flaw I've found after 4 days is that one pixel. I'm very pleased with this machine.

I had the same thing happen: The widget did color cycling for about 40 seconds and then just stopped on blue.

http://www.psp-vault.com/modules.php...=getit&lid=355

just download that video, set your quicktime on loop make sure your screen isn't set to shut off...and let it go...we'll see how it turns out in the morning. don't worry about the things that look like black smudges it's on the video not your display. good luck

My screen was perfect until yesterday when a OSX (Intel) update was done and when it rebooted – THIS (on the right of the hard-drive icon). It is really upsetting to say the least.

What's wrong with repairing it by swapping out the LCD?

The problem with doing that on a new machine is Apple having to crack open the casing (or so to speak) and swap out the LCD and put it back together and it doesn't always have that "fresh from the factory look" after getting something that beautiful repaired. I've been through it with Apple and my Powerbook.

Mduell, please don't take too much offense to this but I can't believe you just joined MacNN in October of last year and have nearly 3,000 posts. You must spend your whole life here.

Not a single dead/stuck/lame/whatever pixel.

Actually no Apple hardware I have ever owned has had one and that includes countless PowerBooks and Apple Cinema Displays. Lucky me.

None for me either. I checked the machine in-store before I handed over the cash. I would have refused it if there was any defects or dead pixels.

How did you manage that man? My local Apple store won't let you crack the box on a new machine or anything for that matter unless you pay for it. Heck, they don't even like to open refreshed stock for you to look at before you buy.

My apple store let me look at my pb fresh from the box too before i bought it. It depends on the store and their individual policies.. and also whom you get serving you in the store lol... just luck i guess.

One rule of thumb i have for myself is not to even look for dead pixels when you work on a machine... most likely there wontbe enough defects to warrant a replacement so its no point in looking and getting heartbroken over it. Althoug i was there last year when i opened my PB and scanned every pixel with a x10 loupe and confirmed no dead pixels!! haha hypocrite! but im just over the dead pixel thing... it will make you crazy if you look into it alot. you wont be able to do your work properly if it worries you and you find them. because you wil be focusing on that spot every second of everyday lol.

I reckon there is hope for lcd and pixel reliability. with lcd TVs becomming very popular and also the size of them going up the manufacturers would have had to greatly improve their manufacturing processes to be able to fit pixels in such a huge screen with minimum defects... hence the likelihood of fewer dead pixels in smaller sized screens. Thats using the principle that yield is inversely proportional to arear. a flaw in my reasoning here is that monitors for pcs have more and smaller pixels than lcd tvs so flaws may be introduced because of that. Eg: a 37" lcd tv i bought has roughly 1380x768 (cant remember lol) and a 15 or 17" monitor has something like 1920x1024 or near that. But anyway, attention is being payed to improve reliability so that is some comfort at least.

cheers,
robM

I don't buy from an Apple store

I prefer to go to an Authorised Apple reseller where they can give me deals on any other stuff I want as well.
