So a few weeks ago I went looking for a new forum to play in and I found The Basement.

The Basement is a live (with VJs) web-broadcasting music video station (and forum, chatroom, jazz club and online store).

Well, just watch: 200kbps or 400kbps (WMP required).

Turns out they've been streaming for five years (and I never knew!). As far as I know it's unique on the intarweb.

I was very happy to find this place.

But two days ago we were told the sponsor is pulling support and they close this Friday.

Bugger.

Anyway, watch the stream (if you have a fast connection). I think you'll agree it's very sad that the web is losing this.

On a brighter note, iTunes needs a station like this. Apple? Call these guys.

Sorry. I really couldn't resist. I know that I have come upon many good sites and internet wonders that were in the process of closing down. I know how bad it feels to find the coolest thing ever right as it is dying off. But, not anything as cool as that sounds.

It worked, but being the social outcast that I am, I quickly lost courage and left.

I did, for all of 20 seconds. I can see why the sponsor is pulling their support. This isn't a reflection on the quality of the site but on the fact that the target audience is probably limited, and most big sponsors like mass appeal so as to get their name plastered all over Britney's performance etc. That's the way it goes sadly.

Question: Why don't you start your own site? If you reach and contact many indy labels, small clubs etc, you might get enough support to put summat like that together.

Couldn't they try to go the way of people donating to them? Have they tried already?

The viewers are offering to donate but the plug has already been pulled.

Theo, you disappoint me. 20 seconds to judge? Sheesh...

You won't find a more eclectic mix of music at one place. 20 seconds...

Sorry, but I think a lot of you are missing the point.

A web-streaming music video channel has been running for five years now and no-one has known. The Basement's regulars have their TVs and sound systems hooked up and run this full-screen around the house via the web.

Rupert charges for this ****.

This is the future and it's been here for five years. For free!

Is this a mac forum? Are you folks interested in "the next step"? I thought you might be interested. Instead you move straight to goat sex.

I must have the wrong place...

In three years when Apple build this into iTunes you'll all be raving about it like it's a revolution.

They'll play Britney.

(And you'll deserve it. )

I didn't like the song that was on at the moment I watched. The site'll be gone on Friday you say. Can you explain to me why the fuk I should watch a site that'll be gone tomorrow? Is that something you often do?

I sure as hell hope that's not part of 'the future'.

BTW, who the hell is Rupert?
