Thought this could be a fun thread, to post and talk about the really messed up things we see in the headlines and news feeds. Here's one to start with.

Florida Couple Addicted to Coffee Enemas - ABC News

Mike and Trina swear by their coffee. He enjoys a fine espresso grind, which is "on the cold side"; she prefers a "saturated blend" that is "warm and thicker."

The St. Petersburg, Fla., couple refuses to drink the caffeinated beverage, which they say is bad for their health. Instead, they use it as an enema. They each have at least 100 coffee enemas a month, 6,000 in all since their addiction began two years ago.

"I started the whole debacle," Trina, who did not want to reveal her last name, told ABCNews.com. "Then it took on a life of its own. I twice tried to stop and felt worse, so I do this every day and as much as I can. But it's very time-consuming."

"I love the way it makes me feel," said Trina. "It gives me a sense of euphoria."

The couple admits they perform their caffeinated enema at least four times a day. Once, Trina said she did "nine or 10" in a 24-hour period.

Her husband Mike, 45, said he initially thought, "Oh my god, how disgusting," but then he tried it, "and now I am addicted."

I'll just keep on enjoying mine the old-fashioned way, thanks.

I have actually heard of this addiction before but 4 times a day? Good grief.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

May as well be a drug addiction at that point. It sounds like their lives revolve around consuming as much caffeine as they can.

You just had to remind me of that.

Incidentally I'm watching the full episode right now. The other person featured is a woman addicted to LICKING HER F*CKING CATS.

What the hell is wrong with people?! And does anyone remember when TLC was about, you know, learning?

The sad thing is that the people in Honey Boo Boo are probably some of the most sane people to be featured on the entire channel.

This became possible when documentaries switched from explaining to gawking. Here in Europe, traveling freak shows are pretty much illegal these days, but they're not necessary, anyway: we have "infotainment".

It's a known phenomenon, sociologists call it the "Top Gear effect". (Not making that up.)

Of course! That's why the é has an accent (as does the first "e" in toupée). It's a syllable.

If anybody needs me, I'll be around the corner at the Caf (excuse the clich).

I apologize if I just stepped on a joke, but that's exactly American vernacular for cafeteria.

Edit: French sounds dumb anyway (I assume this is french inspired words)

Yeah, but it's certainly not the vernacular for a café.

Also, hating on the French has been lame cliché for a decade.

That reminds me, not a fan of Marion Cotillard or Sophie Marceau's accents. Oddly I don't recall having an issue with Audrey Tautou's in Da Vinci.

I'd be interested to know why. From what I understand most people find it quite 'romantic'.

As a native English speaker, I find the masculine and feminine stuff is difficult. German must be worse with the added neutral type.

Obviously not for any rational reason. The sound just rubs me the wrong way, and as far as I can remember I didn't have any traumatic experiences with French growing up so its not something crazy like that.

Still, as much as French rubs me the wrong way, Portuguese is worse. It sound like someone just mashed French and Spanish into some weird frankenstein language that sounds ridiculous.

...and yes, I can sympathize with those that think English (particularly the American dialect) as sounding terrible.

Heh. You might want to hear Saxon German, which is a dialect with a weird, soft sing-songing that the rest of Germany generally regards as completely silly and impossible to take seriously.

Brazilian Portuguese is one of the sexiest languages on the planet.

And there is a rather huge difference between different dialects of French within France (as within Germany). English runs the gamut from Jamaican patois over Boston English to Southern drawl, and whatever the hell else in between and aside.

Some dialects are horrible, some are pleasant, depending upon the listener.

This isn't particularly astounding, is it?
