I'm pondering the idea of getting a new alarm clock, this is what I have now and I hate it:

I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys are using to wake you up.

My alarm clock is amazingly like iMOTOR's, though it goes off at an obscenely early hour-usually either 0430 or 0500. Which is still better than a few years ago when I needed it to go off at 0330 in order to get to work at 0600. Yes, that sucks, but it's in the past.

After crawling out of the sack, the thing that gets me awake is this coffee maker:

It is programmed to start the coffee when the alarm goes off, and since it brews VERY quickly, by the time I make it to the kitchen, the coffee is done! Hurray!

To VW, or anyone else who knows.

Is it considered offensive to listen to that just for its musical qualities regardless of the religious nature of it?

I like the sound of that--I listen to a lot of Gregorian chant music for the same reasons, I like the repetitive,
droning nature of the sounds--and have downloaded it. But I don't want to play it when others are around,
like my Muslim neighbor, if it would be construed as offensive to hear it in a non-religious setting/context.

<edited to add>
When you play it in QT 7 the title of the piece shows up in Arabic. Pretty freakin' cool of OS X/QT if you ask me. The language support is everywhere in the OS.

Ask your Muslim neighbor. I'd suspect that he wont mind, though.

He works nights and goes to school during the day. I work during the day and go to school at night. we see each other about every three weeks when one of us is coming or going.

Surprisingly the combination of the aroma and sound it makes when the steam comes out ("Chhhhhhhhhhhhh") wakes me up.

That is when my gf wakes up before me.

I used to get that.

Now a three year old wakes me every morning around 5:20am (give or take a few minutes). Vaginas cause children! Who knew?!

And now it seems the vagina has been put away for special occasions.

I don't think it would be offensive. There are remixes editions of it I bet.

For such a small stereo package it sounds very good. The build quality is heirloom level. And as a woodowrker, I love the cherry cabinet.

I highly recommend any Tivoli radio package.

EDIT: what wakes me up 99% of the time is, as Face Ache put it, my 2 year old. Best alarm clock in the WORLD!!!

I personally have no problem with it but I don't know how others would view it. I listen to it both for the religious reasons as well as just the art. I've got several different versions of it and you can see a lot of difference between the different muezzins ("prayer callers"). If you want more versions of it just let me know and I'll pm you the links. I've got one version by Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) as well. I somehow doubt many Muslims would be offended by it so just ask your Muslim neighbour what he thinks and I don't think there will be any problems. My guess is that he'll probably just be happy about it.

Now on the other hand, you might have him really confused if he starts hearing this outside of the prayer times.

Your guy is very cute Nexus5.

I just wake up. Usually occurs within a thirty minute range.

When I have to get up at 5:12am for my Media Ministry on Sunday then I use an Alarm.

My coffee maker makes the coffee first then beeps loudly enough to wake me up when it's done. The perfect arrangement.
