Imagine my disbelief when my next door neighbour claimed a peacock was nesting just behind their backyard fence in the ravine. (This is in the city of Toronto.) So, I went looking for it. And indeed, there is a peahen tromping around there.

Must have been someone's pet, or from a farm or something. I didn't see it fly, so maybe its wings are clipped.

Beauty, eh?

It's amazing how animal adapts to even the most trying conditions. for this peahen making a go of it in an urban environment.

If they are as heinously stupid as turkeys, I think you'd be disappointed in its response.

I hope it doesn't stay in your neighborhood long. Peacocks are among the most obnoxiously loud birds in existence.

I thought it was just the males that were loud, like roosters, no?

In any case, I have never heard this bird utter anything at all, and I haven't seen any males yet. Just this one peahen.

Are you near a Zoo? I hear the Peacocks at the Winnipeg Zoo get out and fly all over the surrounding area.

Well, the Toronto Zoo is about 16 km (10 mi) as the crow... err... peahen... flies away from here.

A lot of people have them as pets here due to large acreage. I haven't the slightest idea why. This one girl I used to work with had them all over her parent's farm while growing up. They don't gobble as much as they shout "Haulp!"
are you lightfooted?

My aunt and uncle's neighbour had male peacocks. I say "had," because... well, out in the country, if nobody's home to hear the gunshot(s)...

It’s a $500 fine in my area if you’re caught mistreating one.

And yes, they are loud at times.

I'll give you about a week before you get a gun and shoot it. The company that owns the cabin next to ours keeps 2 peacocks on the property to make it look more luxurious. They don't shut the f**k up. They sound like a kid trapped in a well, but make that god damn annoying sound 24 hours a day.

Peacocks have been kept in a number of cultures as pets-and as "intrusion alarms." They can be trained to be quiet unless startled, and then they are cacophonous! Two or more is all it takes to ruin a whole night.
