this is the error message I receive when attempting to update over SOFTWARE UPDATE.
I get an identical error when i download the file from Apple and open the executable.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Download the combo update manually and use that to install.
Also, when you booted from the CD did you only repair the permissions? You should check the disk for errors and repair those too.

hey man,
this happened to me a long time ago and it turned out i had a bad ram stick. funny enough, as soon as it was replaced the install went fine. i would boot into hardware test and do the thorough testing and makes sure all is well.

If you live near an Apple store, they'll help you out.
