It's probably system maintenance or the like.

But damn, if it were to be new G5's...

Must be a maintenance thing--though that's usually performed later at night EST.

No way would they ever release 10.4 without seeding it to developers / previewing it at WWDC.

WWDC is in July or so this year. It would be stupid to delay it until then if it's ready.

It would never be ready now. Not in mid-march with the current release cycle.

I'm still not getting in. I can get to the front page of the online store, but when I click on the PowerBooks or the Discounts section the page loads half way and then no more. Reload has no effect. It comes back to the same point with the page half loaded and then stops. Whatup wit dat?

Why would it be ready now? Why would they release it without giving developers any seeds so they can ensure their apps are compatible?

The store is down for maintenance or something boring.

It's hilarious to read all the reactions during some Apple.com or store.apple.com maintenance or whatever.

If the it happens to be a major upgrade, then Steve will want to make the announcement at his Stevenote. Just be patient it's just a little over three months away.

Not implausible, but unlikely, since the 27th is a Saturday, and the last day of the memory deal. The 30th would make more sense.

*sarcasm detector goes off*

I was just surprised by the amount of hype that was being generated by the Apple Store going down, even though it was on a friday afternoon. No harm in trying to dispel some hysteria before it got out of control.

Ya, it would have nothing to do with the recent news that they aren't selling as well as they thought they would and analysts are scared.

They're not selling because people have been saying that new machines are due "any day now" for the past two months.

I'd say it hurt, unless a dual 3GHz comes out really soon.

Didn't they say by "this time next year" which is late summer.

No. But that is still what screwed them. It might be nice if Apple were the kind of company that could have released a statement to the press with a release estimate for the new machines.

One would have to be retarded not to think a YEAR later the G5 would be the same speed.

I don't think it is what is making them have bummer sales at all. And we don't need 3GHz "real soon" as it is not late summer.
