I was just wandering, will Apple provide the new G5 with a newly designed keyboard and/or mouse?
Maybe someone who attended WWDC can provide some info.

Yeah, I was wondering about this too. I hope they have something else be the time these things actually ship, the keyboards are the same one's shipping with the eMacs. From what I have read in these forums they seem a little cheaper, I thought it was b/c they were with the cheap eMacs, but it would appear that these are the new keyboards and mouse.

it says it comes with a pro mouse and keyboard, but there is no pro mouse or keyboard listed on the store, just Apple Mouse and Apple Keyboard. Maybe they will reveal the new Pro line when the G5s ship...

That is interesting. The eMac specs say Apple Keyboard and Mouse but the iMac and G5 specs say Pro Keyboard and Pro Mouse. Yet, they look like the exact same keyboard/mouse.

Nope, not quite. If you look in the pheriphial forums on it the differences are discussed there. Yeah, I hope the G5 gets a new set up too.

A new mouse must certainly be on the way - just look at how often the Panther Preview mentions the use of multi button mouse!
Come on Jonathan - do your stuff

Actually, if you look at the PMG5 intro video in the segment after Luxology, there is a new keyboard I think, the keys do look more Alu.

How many members of this forum use the supplied keyboard and mouse? Especially the mouse?

The Keyboard is actually pretty good. The mouse is useless.

I use my pro keyboard, even on the KVM switch with the PC .
The mouse was long ago buried in a landfill.

Go to the AppleStore. Click on any G5 PowerMac. On the config page scroll down.
You will see:
- the pic shows clearly the new keyboard that came with the eMac
- the menu entry says "Apple Keyboard" not "Apple Pro Keyboard"
I guess this means Apple will start including the non-Pro type keyboard and mouse on all lines. Maybe they'll sell a new pro-version (aluminium? two-button? scroll-wheel?) version as an add-on for 200$...?
And, I have always used Apple exteneded keyboards and now I use the Pro Keyboards. They're nice. The mouse looks nice, feels nice and works good. But it lacks a second button and a scroll wheel, i.e. -> trash.

Same here, use and love the pro keyboard, bought a new mouse as soon as I got my PowerMac, didn't even bother with the Apple mouse.

If you look at the picture showing the keyboard from the side angle, it is the new keyboard. It's the same one shipping with the new eMacs. Take a closer look. The USB ports are in the back. If you look at the mouse cord, it trails to the back of the keyboard where the ports are located.

Took a look at the video, definately the Apple keyboard and mouse. I think they look slightly grey due to the low light. All I know is that if they ship me that I'm keeping my Pro keyboard and who ever gets my QS gets the crap one. They gotta be shipping something new, maybe they just need to finish up some touches and are using the current keyboard as a place holder on the Apple Store webpage. They are not shipping 'til the end of August early October so there is plenty of time.

I was just looking at the Tech Specs on Apple's G5 page. It says that it includeds the Pro Keyboard and Pro Mouse. I don't know what the deal is between this and the Apple store setup. If anyone is ordering by phone perhaps they could ask.

I don't believe it !
What with wireless this and that being all the buzz, no body here seems to want a bluetooth enabled keyboard and mouse for the G5. At the very least the keyboard should have that light in it that the 17" Powerbook has, eh ?
