Apparently (according to Treehugger...) eating beef is good for the environment. At least as long as the cattle are allowed to graze on grass rather than fed corn they can apparently be used as a net carbon sink rather than a net carbon emitter.
Sounds good to me. I try to minimize my meat intake and avoid cornfed beef anyway, though not for environmental reasons, but who can complain about something you'd be doing anyway being good for unexpected reasons?

It's clear - humans can't eat meat raw (ignoring sushi, tartare, Inuit eating raw game etc. etc.), so we were never meant to eat any kind of meat.

Right. The OP. It's all crap. "Why?" you ask... OK, here goes...
1) Whoever keeps banging on about cow farts and methane is forgetting the other end. Specifically, the CO2 coming out of the other end. Breathing. A cow's lungs are considerably larger than a healthy V8, and unlike the V8 kick out CO2 all the time. Well, at least until the captive bolt hits, anyways.
2) In order to provide us monkeys with an equal amount of nutrients, the breakdown is roughly as follows: 1 acre crop nutrient = 16 acres meat nutrient. So, all things being equal, for the same food quantity you could do one of the following two things:
a) Put cows on 16 acres.
b) Put crop on four acres (one acre per year - crop rotation type thingy). Put trees on the other 12 acres.
Bingo, huge carbon sink.
Of course, this doesn't take into account all the land which you can put sheep on but can't farm otherwise. But I guess all things being equal, no cows is considerably better for the environment.
Of course, the whole man-made global warming thing is BS anyway. If it wasn't, they'd have banned catalytic convertors by now. And the G8 would be using one of those nice Cisco teleconferencing thingies we saw on 24 instead of private jets.

I rather suspect that the issue of CO2 produced by respiration is intentionally avoided because the greenies wouldn't be able to handle the consequences of that line of reasoning: kill all the non-essential animals.

Indeed.
Now, I like trees and stuff but these treehuggers ain't in it for the love of the branch. I reckon they're mostly in it for the social aspect. You know, bunch of peeps who haven't seen soap for a month and aren't cool enough to get into the chess club need love too!

Fsck me...I love corned beef so much. Haven't had it in ages, either.

You can have my corned beef when you pry it from my cold dead hands! My wife's (of) Irish (extraction) so we always have a big St. Patrick's day dinner complete with her grandmother's corned beef. Best damned stuff ever. Even with the 'improvements' I made to the recipe when I cooked it last year (actually my version did turn out really well, the only real problem was that I waited until the day of to buy the beef in Boston, so the grocery store was down to the bottom of the barrel briskets which brought the level down a little... and prevented one of our friends who was there for dinner from eating it because it wasn't kosher...).
