I'm really getting tired of all the various attacks on Republicans.

No where in that article does that say he was shot because he was Republican. It was a baseball game. Not a political event, like Gabby Giffords, who was clearly targeted.

AP says it was a congressional baseball game, so a bit more political grouping-wise, but a) article didn't say just republican senators playing baseball. Unclear if Scalise was targeted or if anyone would have served the shooter's purpose.

Ok, now Fox has updated it was GOP baseball practice. Several other people also shot. The baseball game w both dems and reps is held tomorrow for charity.

Reading they were likely saved because one member was leadership so capitol police were present.

Whoever planned this had to know what they were doing, and it damn near worked.

The saving grace here is it sounds like the shooter was a terrible shot. Thank god.

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) recounted an "odd" encounter he had as he was leaving the field just minutes before the shooting: "There was a guy that walked up to us that was asking whether it was Republicans or Democrats out there, and it was just a little odd," DeSantis told Fox News.
Aside from DeSantis putting it out there before we know what happened and thus poisoning the well, I have other concerns with his logic.

a) he doesn't know if the shooter was connected to this person, or WAS this person;
b) the shooter had to already been hidden in the field somewhere, no reports of someone barging in. Reports were "suddenly shooting from a dugout." Which implies it was planned well, avoided security, etc. So some random guy wondering who is playing, assuming he IS connected to shooter, either c) doesn't care which side it is, or d) not as good at planning as it would seem, or e) lucked out if he and his buddy wanted to target R. Also f) for Florida, and their shifty ways.

edit for chongo's bernie link:

As I said later, Fox updated their post. The first version was very sparse, so I was surprised at Badkosh's reaction. Also, see post right above yours!

not by the washington post... link pls?

Is this facebook friend they found just an attention seeker?

also found this quote repulsive:
Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) suggested Wednesday that Democrats' "rhetoric" was to blame for the shooting earlier that morning at a Republican congressional baseball practice, which left at least five injured including Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.). "I can only hope that the Democrats do tone down the rhetoric," Collins said on WBEN radio. "The rhetoric has been outrageous — the finger-pointing, just the tone and the angst and the anger directed at Donald Trump, his supporters. Really, then, you know, some people react to things like that. They get angry as well. And then you fuel the fires."
Rep Collins, it's not like anyone in Democratic leadership has been showing their supporters images covered with rifle targets and suggesting we really go after those republicans.

Let me clarify; The person who asked which party was playing was supposedly wearing different clothes than the shooter. Can't dig through twitter to confirm at the moment, so feel free to rebunk. Otherwise the other stuff is correct.

I was imagining a stadium with walls and security. This looks like a neighborhood ballfield, prob just a chain link fence. So my theory of hiding in the dugout, or having a plan, is out. The guy just walked in.

Look at the windows broken, not on the ballfield. It's amazing more weren't hurt.

It appears they found an older pic of the shooter (if true he's a known left-wing protester). Waiting for more info.

The guy lived outside St. Louis. He used to have a home inspection business, but his license wasn't renewed. He probably sat at home and watched the LWMSM and the fake news and it drove this wack job to that.

I think it's safe to say he's a Bernie supporter.

I'm going to try and sit on the sidelines on this one and see what rhetoric gets flung about.

Not to defend the wack job at all, he sounds very unstable, lots of arrests... but the MSM hasn't been actively promoting "RELOAD" rhetoric.

I also don't get how supposed Bernie fans choose to be violent, since Bernie was a non-violent protester and is against violence.

How did this guy with such a record not only have a gun but a license?

Why would you think that? I specifically said ideologues.

Maybe you aren't using it like the dictionary: "an impractical idealist" which to me seems like a dreamy-eyed postcard-campaigner. The photo you posted looks like a hate group. Granted I don't know much about them. Fringe group?

Anyway, I'm glad you see a distinction. Too many rabid people in comments everywhere saying horrible things about people.

Thought Ryan and Pelosi made a good combo speech condemning the shootings and calling for unity. Also applaud today's speechwriter for Trump, he did a good job not laying blame and keeping focus on the victims.

Unfortunately those initial reports about Scalise being in stable condition are inaccurate. Hearing multiple reports he's in critical condition and will need more surgeries. Lost a lot of blood.

Condemn the left when they say mean things, while revelling in the idea of violent retribution against them?

Your perception is painfully askew. WTFH? One, it ain't about what they've said, but what they've done, and two, when was I "revelling"? You certainly have some issues.

The part of me which condemns this is my lefty side.

While I have certain right-wing leanings, I was taught understanding of my fellow man from the left.

This is imortant to me, and the more it's abandoned, the more I find it disturbing.

Does anyone know what kind of gun he was using? Was he that shitty at aiming? I know they reported it was a LONG GUN, so it could have been a rimfire 22 on up.

I live in northern VA, and have been all over Alexandria. My Uncle and both sets of grandparents lived within a mile of the ball park. I went to elementary school for 1st and 2nd grade before we moved to Springfield, VA.

The narrative that Scalise was somehow a racist and involved with David Duke? Debunked.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/po...rticle/2626041

Furthermore, the mere idea that shooting him can somehow justified because someone thinks he might be a racist is beyond disgusting and ****ed up.

Can't watch the video, but I've seen MSNBC confirm it was the same person as well. What I haven't seen explained is the change of clothes. Does the above video cover that?

Does this qualify as motive? He had a "hit list"
Scalise shooter James Hodgkinson had list of Republican lawmakers' names

It's evidence, but not motive. Scalise was shot, but not on the list?

but others who are on the list were there. It appears the gunman ran out of time and felt he couldn't wait any longer.
