Scientists say people could live active lives for hundreds of years if humans follow the same biological rules as laboratory worms.

If this is possible would you want to?

What crazy stuff can we imagine
would happen, if we genetically
mutated ourselves into half-fish
half-man things ?

There's a cheap reply to that, but obviously I'm above rising to such easy bait.

Hundreds of years? No matter what supergenes they give you, the stress from knowing you'll be paying bills and taxes for that long will kill you.

yep - I would happily live onto 2-3-400 years but some laws would have to change first - like euthanasia - I'd like to be able to choose when I die. Alimony laws would have to change too.

No. I don't want to have to work for 300 years in order to save enough for retirement. Imagine even if you hit the powerball jackpot for ~100 million you'd still have to go back to work eventually.

No you wouldn't. If you invested properly, you could have a nice income for perpetuity, even considering inflation. Many people set up funds who's interest goes to scholarships. The principal is never touched and a small portion of the interest goes back into the principal and the remainder is distributed to the scholarship awardees. This is a big part of how the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois stays open.

I think I'll prefer to give my space to my kids when that time comes. No need to fill the world with stubborn elders.

Ummm...no, it's not fake. And as far as not having your "bits and pieces", the alterations are made before they develop, thus if these tweaks were made after puberty, your sexual organs should remain intact. Personally, I'd love to live an extra few hundred years, at least to see how technology progresses.

Another reason why I won't want to live that long. Unless they can also make us age slow after we hit mid 20s. So we will look young for a long time, and have the health of mid 20 year olds. So than by the time we hit 200, we'll still only look like in our 40s. Than I won't mind.
