So looks like M$ is finally getting into the game of MP3 players and eyes to unseat iPod, with it's another uninventive and uninspired POS product. Creative and some other Korean company is developing it and M$ will retail it for 678-738 USD (what say you iPod/iPod Mini nay sayers!)
The Creative player weighs in at 330 grams (11.5 ounces) -- roughly three times as thick as an iPod and roughly twice as long to accommodate its television-quality color screen.
So far it looks good for a hernia!
But no doubt the winblows weenies will hail it as another outstanding achievement.
EDIT: here's the link

MS is RIGHT! I can SEE people LUGGING that around instead of a iPod while they jog!
I wont be cumbersome at all!
MS knows how to take over companies and make software.
It doesn't know form factor at all.

I'm no expert, but I don't think there is a market for a tiny video player, especially at an iBook price.

I hardly think this is going to be the iPod killer. Especially not with the mini iPod out.

In other news, Microsoft introduces an ear bud cell phone, so tiny it will fit in your ear eliminating the bulky cell phones of past.

Seriously, does anyone think that a video player with a 2 inch screen is all that great of an innovation? I can listen to the same song a thousand times and not get sick of it, but how many times are you going to watch a movie on that itty-bitty screen? I'll stick with my small, sleek, cool, considerably smaller (and cheaper) iPod, thanks all the same.

I could only find this picture of it though:
Apparently with the Portable Media Center I'll be able to teleport with cool looking lines all while listening to my music, wathing my TV, viewing my pictures and shooting my head.

I know I am probably alone in this opinion but I would love a small combined music/video player. The operative word being small here, about iPod size would do me.
I travel an awful lot and the ability to blank out in-flight 'entertainment' would be worth the cash to me. And who says you'd have to watch it on a small screen? Add some screen goggles and you're away, immersion style.

What is it with MS and there dumb 'My' naming convantion anyway? Outside of 'My Documents' non of it really makes any sense.
'My Music' the record industry is attempting to convince people that it's never really your music, you just have a licence to play it. 'My TV' is possibly the dumbest programe option I have seen in my life. I dont know about evrybody else but MY TV is a big thing sitting the corner of my front room.

the reason the iPod is doing so well is that it's designed for the non nerd group. It's also at the price where wealth-ish kids can purchase it.

You're all missing one other important fact: It's got a USB connection. I know USB 2.0 is faster, but the thought of transferring hours of movies via USB just turns me off.

It's not an iPod killer. But it being the size of a small portable tv, plus it plays music, it's not a bad idea. However, at $700 I'll be okay without one

USB 2.0 is only faster on paper. It's not faster IRL compared to FW 400 or the new (800)?

At $700, it's going to fail because consumers are going to ay "then why not just get a cheap Windows laptop and a cool iPod."

No, not at all. I'd LOVE one that ran OS X.
However, at $700 I'll be okay without one
Indeed, considering I was kicking and screaming at paying $1000 for my G4.

I've always felt they were good as well. They use rather unorthodox methods, but they work.
They are:
1) All talk and eye candy, no specifications.
2) Version 1.0 is FREE* (until you get the bugs worked out, then we will charge out the a$S, oh and it can't be uninstalled without going through loops)
3) Include it (or integrate it) in to the OS (while crippling the competitions applications)
4) Blatant lies like "We use standards" translation "We use our proprietary standards"
5) Release a version that's 1/2 the competition until they are killed off, then charge 2X as much forever.
6) FUD FUD FUD, and pay SCO to scare the industry in to using their products.
I think I got them all...

I laugh at microsoft. Late to the party, again. Maybe they'll do like with the xbox and make it 4 times the size of the ipod to impress everyone. If they've got so much money, why don't they hire someone with a bit of vision? It's all half arsed.

Don't get too overconfident. Apple has had similar moments. But when they do decided to get into a certain market at least they add to it and improve the concept. All M$( ) did was make it heavier and blah. They just want to cash in and put in minimal effort as possible.

Ha ha, that's the exact same thing I thought when I saw it.
Really, I clicked the link, expecting to see something bigger than the iPod but not huge. I figured people on here were probably exaggerating, given that this is a Mac forum and all. Then I saw it. HOLY SH*T, that thing is huge!

The only reasonable portable video solution I think will be once we get monitor "glasses" until then we'll always have people complaining about it.
