My sister and I are going to the Grand Canyon in October.

I thought we should go to Flagstaff because it is a lot closer than Vegas. Stay there for 2 days. Then we go to Vegas for 2 to 3 days, visit the city or the Strip, then go to Red Rock state park, then to the Death Valley National Park.

I wanted to see the Petrified forest but it is too far for just one week.

My sister wants to visit the Canyon in a helicopter, do you know if there are such trip from Flagstaff in October.

It is ashamed I wanted to do some rafting but going down to the Canyon is problematic for me since I am afraid of height meaning flying in a helicopter.

Do you have any suggestions.

There are helicopter touring companies near the entrance to the park. There are no helicopter companies in Flagstaff, IIRC.

You might want to spend some time in Williams, AZ (The Gateway To The Grand Canyon) it's a cute little town on Route 66. They have a steam locomotive train that goes to and from the Canyon. You get a taste of the wild west there.

I used to live in Flagstaff.

I think you'll enjoy more of the park walking around. In October it won't be as crowded as during the summer.

Hike around a little, and around sunset find a nice rock to sit on facing west.

Red Rock is gorgeous too. Why stay in Flagstaff? Spend the time seeing the area.

Also, while you're on your way from the Grand Canyon to Vegas, why not stop at the Hoover Dam.
