I've always respected John McCain. But my respect for him went up 10-fold after that concession speech. Wow.

Well done Sen. McCain!

Absolutely.

I was voicing agreement in another thread just as you started this one.

McCain was right about both his and Obama's desire to serve the country.
McCain and Obama just had different ideas about how best to serve the
country; In this election more citizens thought Obama's ideas were superior.

His speech was very classy but not surprising in the least. for Senator John McCain.
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

I agree - kudos to McCain on a great speech and making all the points he needed to make. I think he gave a glimpse of the 'real' McCain - the one who's not running for President. I have 2 qualifying comments -

1. It was a great speech, but unfortunate that he had to spend so much focus and effort on unity after running a divisive campaign.

2. My tremendous respect for McCain is confirmed, but Palin can suck it. She was nothing but divisive through the whole thing. It's probably for the best she didn't get to say anything, as it would have rang hollow.

Anyone else get the feeling that McCain looked as though he wanted to scold the crowd for booing?

Yeah. That crowd was classless.

The time of divisiveness is over. It's time to come together as a country and support our President-elect.

I think he'll be a better senator without having to conform to Conservative politics.

Did you fall asleep because you were tired or because you found the speech boring?

Being the partisan Democrat that I am, I agree it was a good speech. I asked my wife where was this John McCain during his campaign, the McCain tonight was classy, intelligent, respectful and hopeful.

If this McCain would have been on the trail, it would have been a different race.

The smartest thing McCain did tonight was keeping Palin from speaking.
The Religious Right is neither.

Well, I guess he's the only partisan asshat in this forum. Right? There's been nothing BUT **** slinging from both sides for years, his comments aren't anything special.

Agreed.
It's bitter-sweet irony that the best speech of McCain's campaign was his concession speech. He kept on talking even though people booed.

I was thinking that THIS McCain could have won the election, not the one that his political strategist made him to be.

It was his best speech. Too bad he waited until the end to use it.

Excellent speech, and I agree with osiris that it's too bad he waited until the end to use it. It was expecially classy considering his campaign was a litany of blatant lies, cartoons and fear mongering.

I felt like McCain was just rambling on and on, making the same three or four points over and over again. It was certainly magnanimous enough toward the guy he spent the last 6 months portraying as the grim reaper, but it was honestly sort of pathetic and sad, an old man watching his last chance at greatness slip away from him.

A hate-inciting campaign that ended in a classy concession speech. I don't know if that would save McCain's image.

It seemed more like the McCain of yore, and less like the pod person that has been campaigning.

McCain was sadly, a bit too old in his years to run IMHO. He himself said if if he DID run, he would only be in for 4 years.

And I didn't ever see McCain as a pod person. He has very little movability though, because of all the crap that was done to him when he was a POW. I hung out a lot on forums from both sides. And I hear hateful things being said about McCain from both sides. About he acts too lifeless, not enough arm movement.. I wonder if they knew why? In all actuality I am sure he was glad it's over. That's why we never really have anyone REALLY good that wants to run for the Presidency. They don't feel like dragging their life through the mud. Or dealing with media that has already penned you a loser from day one. I am proud of my country for not letting the color of a man's skin get in the way of their voting decision. I am not however proud of how our mainstream media didn't do their jobs correctly. And ever admitted to helping out Obama win this year. Even though I voted for him, that doesn't make me proud. You shouldn't be proud doing such a thing when your in such a position. It almost makes me more afraid of the media, then our government.

I absolutely agree. If McCain had run his entire campaign the way he gave that speech (whatever that means) I most likely would have voted for him instead of Obama. In fact the main reason that I didn't vote for him to begin with was that I was worried that this aspect of him was gone for good and wasn't at all confident that it would come back after the election; of course whether or not it would have come back if he had actually won is a different question entirely.

He'd still have to deal with the MSM that was in love with Obama, and already made up their minds. And was actually doing their part to make sure he won. McCain didn't really have a chance.

Being a pod person isn't about his mobility, arms, etc. It's about his mentality and personality.

I still would have voted for Obama, but I wouldn't have felt bad if that particular McCain won. That's also assuming he wouldn't 've picked Sarah Palin as his VP. I wouldn't vote for McCain no matter what with Palin as his VP.

I'll second that.

P.S. Did you get the Firefly Blu-Rays? I'm a sucker and did. It's the third time I've bought the whole series (DVD & iTunes) but what can I say?

OT

I bought the Blu-rays, and then gave my "old" DVDs away to a friend to get him into Firefly/Whedon. Evil? Probably.
