People picking up a 64 or 128GB iPhone 6/6 Plus later this week will find several of Apple's iLife and iWork apps pre-installed, a leaked internal Apple training document reveals. The company specifically lists iMovie, GarageBand, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and iTunes U. "These apps are also available as a free download from the App Store for the 16GB models," Apple writes.
The decision may prove controversial, since although users will likely be able to delete the apps if necessary, they will consume gigabytes of extra space until then. Apple has run into similar flak with its U2 album giveaway; it pushed the album to iTunes accounts without asking, potentially causing problems for people with devices set to download purchases automatically.

Out of the six Apps have not used any of them on an iPhone. On my iPad I've used Pages and Numbers, and on my MacBook all of them. It seems like a waste of their time to preinstall all of them because now I've got to delete the ones that I'm sure that I won't use.

I haven't decided if it's a good idea for Apple to do this, but how hard is it to delete them if you don't want them? I think most people that don't follow tech news closely don't know that Apple is giving these away for free and will be thrilled to see them on their new phones.

I would love to have them if they are free. Currently I am using Google's Docs and Sheets and their features are incredibly limited on iOS devices.

As the new iPhones have space to spare, and as it is very simple to delete them if not wanted, I think this is a rare example of logical pre-loading. I'm not a big fan of using the iWork apps on my phone, but I have used Keynote several times there and it works surprisingly well. I wonder if this is foreshadowing making the apps free for the next iPad as well?

They've been free for all newly-purchased iPads and iPhones since last year. I got them on the iPhone, and installed them on my aging iPad 2.
I use them all the time.
