Wow, what a nutjob.

I don't know what exactly Oksana did to drive Mel Gibson nuts. But I guess it isn't much to drive him to such rage. Must be because Mel wants a submission Christian wife and share his spiritual views.

I never heard someone so angry that he has to caught his breath. Sounds like he is dying. It can't be good for his blood pressure.

Except I'm 100% sure his anger and his failed marriages had everything to do with his religious beliefs.

The same reason why divorce rates among Christians are 300% higher than Atheists.

Mel Gibson obviously wants a submissive woman to obey his orders and share his spiritual beliefs. Because his current wife is not submissive enough, he calls her a whore.

Sounds like everything is blamed on alcohol.

All of Mel's anti-semetic, racist, and sexist rants can be blamed on alcohol.

I'd put the blame on Mel, no one is forcing him to drink.

Likewise, that stuff is coming from somewhere, there's at least a kernel of it floating around in his sober self, some of it likely informed by his religion.

The point is though, there are people who become wildly different when they drink. Mel is pretty clearly one of those people.

Dude's got a lot of anger. Given his success it makes you wonder what the hell it stems from.

Again, I've gotten the impression a great deal of it is due to alcohol.

After the first incident, plenty of people came forward and expressed their confusion because they know him, and he just wasn't that way to them. In fact many put him in the "super-nice guy" category. People who were minorities too.

Similarly, there aren't any stories of him being a "middle-ground" asshöle. It's either nada or the full fury of Satan coming out of his mouth. This is markedly unusual.

Do we assume that success in film, media, and money lead to contentment and/or happiness?

If so, his drinking is unusual. If not, he's just another dude with problems.

He could be (in fact I'd be surprised if he wasn't) an alcoholic too.

Not that it would make things any less unusual, but there might not be as direct a correlation between contentment and use here.

SO what exactly does his religion have to do with this recording, or is this just another troll? Are you implying that atheists don't scream at/hit their wives or girlfriends? If that's the case, you are seriously deluded.

Obviously you've never dated a Russian chick.

12% of Russian deaths are alcohol related and Russia is the world #1 in alcoholism. That's because there's a lot of Russian chicks there.

I also get the feeling that some of this anti-Gibson stuff is ...umm... a Hollywood production.

As others have said, Mel's problem is related to alcohol. There may be some tangential influence on his attitudes towards women from his strict Catholic beliefs, but his main problem is alcohol.

Of all the Hollywood types who enter rehab to redeem themselves, Mel seems to be the most in need of some serious detoxification and behavioral therapy to get of the booze and stay off it.

(None of this should be construed as approving of or condoning his actions towards his girlfriend. They are indefensible.)
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

I can't condone his methods, but I agree with many of his points.

That bitch should be ashamed of herself for setting him up and trying to ruin him like this.
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

Speaking of

The angry Kenyan tribesman was disinhibited toward his own people but inhibited toward Edgerton. Alcohol turned the Mixe into aggressive street fighters, but they retained the presence of mind to "hold out their weapons to the onlookers." Something that truly disinhibits ought to be indiscriminate in its effects. That's not the picture of alcohol that these anthropologists have given us.
...
Psychologists have encountered the same kinds of perplexities when they have set out to investigate the effects of drunkenness. One common "belief is that alcohol causes self-inflation." It makes us see ourselves through rose-tinted glasses. Oddly, though, it doesn't make us view everything about ourselves through rose-tinted glasses. When the psychologists Claude Steele and Mahzarin Banaji gave a group of people a personality questionnaire while they were sober and then again when they were drunk, they found that the only personality aspects that were inflated by drinking were those where there was a gap between real and ideal states. If you are good-looking and the world agrees that you are good-looking, drinking doesn't make you think you're even better-looking. Drinking only makes you feel you're better-looking if you think you're good-looking and the world doesn't agree.

Alcohol is also commonly believed to reduce anxiety. That's what a disinhibiting agent should do: relax us and make the world go away. Yet this effect also turns out to be selective. Put a stressed-out drinker in front of an exciting football game and he'll forget his troubles. But put him in a quiet bar somewhere, all by himself, and he'll grow more anxious.

Steele and his colleague Robert Josephs's explanation is that we've misread the effects of alcohol on the brain. Its principal effect is to narrow our emotional and mental field of vision. It causes, they write, "a state of shortsightedness in which superficially understood, immediate aspects of experience have a disproportionate influence on behavior and emotion."

Alcohol makes the thing in the foreground even more salient and the thing in the background disappear. That's why drinking makes you think you are attractive when the world thinks otherwise: the alcohol removes the little constraining voice from the outside world that normally keeps our self-assessments in check. Drinking relaxes the man watching football because the game is front and center, and alcohol makes every secondary consideration fade away. But in a quiet bar his problems are front and center—and every potentially comforting or mitigating thought recedes. Drunkenness is not disinhibition. Drunkenness is myopia.

Classic example of batshit insane leftist 'logic'. The author just flails around trying to pin everything under the sun- the Tea Party Movement(!!!) the laws in Uganda (!!???!!) Son of Sam (!!!!!WTF!!??) to Mel.

Never mind that the guy can't really be pegged as strictly a conservative or a liberal as he's played both sides of the fence and claims not to be for either camp. Never mind that he has shit all to do with any of the rest of that dredged up tripe.

It wasn't just the conservatives that hack author points out that didn't find the Passion particularly anti-Semitic. But of course, in classic lefty fashion, ignore facts and try to tie the latest shallow tabloid drivel into one's own paranoid (and equally shallow) political fantasies. Of course you'd find it 'accurate'.
