Sorry for the stupid question, but I can't find this anywhere.

Where is the dictionary for spelling checking in Mail.app set (in Leopard)? My system seems to have decided on its own that I should really spell things by UK English standards, and I'd like to tell it that's not what I want.

Thanks in advance,

Have you changed your Language settings in Sys Prefs>International? If you want US spelling then drag English [sic] to the top if it isn't there already.

That's the puzzle. I have "English" at the top of the list, and "British English" is completely unchecked. And yet Mail keeps nattering at me to write "analyse" and "honour" instead of "analyze" and "honor", while spell checking in, say, Safari, is fine.

Do you see that popup menu button directly above? That's where you change the language for spell checking. It doesn't have to be identical to the interface language since even though you have the interface shown in on language doesn't mean you will never write texts in another language.

Amazing. I discover in this way that my machine has decided I want to be writing in Australian English. How it came to this conclusion I have no idea, but thanks for letting me know how to set it straight.
