Over the weekend, it seems I've lost almost half of my iDisk space. I did a search by mounting the iDisk and trawling through the folders. I also looked at it with Transmit and swept it via OmniDiskSweeper but I can't find anything out of the ordinary.

Could it be caches or some invisible files?

If you want to look for invisible files I'd suggest taking a peek with the Terminal.

cd /volumes/iDisk_name

ls -a

That'll show all files, including hidden ones.

Maybe check your iDisk account and see what percentage you've set for iDisk space and email space. Perhaps it got changed somehow.

Do you use Backup to automatically back up to your iDisk - perhaps something (like a cache file(s)) is being backed up that is excessively large.

I'll look at the invisbles. I don't usually mess with Terminal. I thought about Backup and purged it and tried it again, only with about 30MB of stuff and that did nothing. I also ran the full spectrum with Onyx and that did nothing.
I have the 1GB space so it's about 400mb that's gone walkabout.

The ls command is foolproof. It can only list things so there's no need to worry about accidently changing anything.

Did you try signing in to your .mac account online, going to Account and then Storage Settings? I think it would be worth checking.

Yeah, I adjusted the settings giving me 50MB for mail and the rest for the iDisk (I had mail set for about twice that amount). It still shows about 75mb free.

I haven't done the terminal command yet. That's the next step.

update: problem solved.

After reading some posts on the Apple discussion board about others with similar problems.

I contacted Apple support and got this back in response (with my missing 600MB of space).

.Mac Support has identified and resolved an issue that was affecting your iDisk. Your iDisk should now report its current usage accurately.

I've mounted my iDisk at work on an XP machine and interestingly enough, "Total Size" shows 20GB and "Free Space" shows something around 4.4GB free.

Anyone else verify the same or similar results?
