As it turns out, I'm not gay (not that there's anything wrong with being gay), but I always kinda felt people suspected that I was, and I even wondered if I was or not.

Mainly because my "mini me" never went 'schwing' when a female was near by.

You see, now that I'm had a point where I'm trying to get my life together (I'm a typical American guy who grew up in a dysfuctional 90's American home, so all through middle/high school, college, I gained a lot of baggage I've only recently been able to shed).

In doing so I started to reflect on things that I didn't have time to worry about or acknowledge in the past such as the fact my voice never deepened, my "mini me' is mini even for healthy average, and like I said I never had the sexual urges that all the guys around me seemed to have.

So last week, I got up the courage to ask my doctor about it, and he did some blood work.

Now as I think every one knows, the male hormone testosterone controls these things and triggers them during adolescence. Testosterone is measured two ways: Total and Free.

For a healthy 27yo man, the average is supposed to be (approx.) 617 ng/dl for Total and (approx.) 12.3 for free.

Where as mine currently is 295ng/dl for total and 0.92 for free!

NO WONDER I'M A 27 YEAR OLD VIRGIN!

The doc's written a prescription for me....puberty, here I come!
What, me worry?

I've never seen such excitement for this type of news. I also would have figured it was a personal matter, but given some of the other threads in the lounge this one isn't that crazy.

Have a good time with your new friend.

I see it as a blessing possibly; nature let you bypass the typical agony and frustration of being a young man.

From what I understand, you will also lead a longer life than most of us. Something to do with puberty later and testosterone is an aging agent.

Thanks for that cheery news, Railroader!

iM@k, glad you got the courage to look into the situation. Had you suspected it was a testosterone problem?

So iM@k, how did you know that there was something wrong with you, and how did you cover it up?

Just askin' 'coz I know this dude who's just hit 40 and has never known a woman. Took him to a goth gig a few years back and he's completely oblivious to all the hot totty in leather knickers, stockings and basques. I mean, the whole place was full of milky goodness and he's oblivious. Rings a bell that he may be suffering from what you've been suffering from?

It wasn't until recently that I realized it was testosterone problem. The first phase (hair happened normally at the right time (ie I lost it on my scalp but got it everywhere else). So I always thought I had completed the cycle, just not to a strong level.

It wasn't until a few months ago when I started working out to loose weight (For the purpose of getting a girl finally and settleing down that I started to add everything up:

- My voice never dropped
- My "boys" never changed size
- I never had acne
- I never had any growth spurts.
- I never had mood swings (Because my life was really messed u at the time, I was emotional, but more because of what was happening around me then in me).
- I have the same child - like facial features I did as a child (If I shave off my goatee, I look like a giant pink faced baby!)
- I was not gaining muscle/loosing fat at the rate I should have been for the amount of energy I was putting into dieting and exercising.

Combine all that with my confusion of why I never never became aroused at the site of naked people and it seemed logical there was only one thing it could be.

To answer Doofy's 2nd question: I didn't try to hide it per se, with the exception of pretending to become idiotically excited around beautiful girls and increased such behavior with the decrease in the amount of clothes said beautiful girls were wearing.
What, me worry?

Maybe take him for a drag past Salty and see if he perks up a little better?

There exists a slight possibility, but if so he's covering it up real well. Very covert.

So what does the treatment regimen entail? I just ask as someone with an (apparently) low, though unambiguously gay, sex drive.

From Wikipedia:

"One adverse effect [of testosterone replacement therapy] that many men complain of is that of the development of gynecomastia (breasts), but this is something that can be prevented by appropriate choice and dosing of medication, and, in required cases, the use of ancillary medications that help lower SHBG or estradiol. Another side-effect is having difficulty urinating."

So, watch out for the moobs, and make sure you can pee.

There are gels that you apply to the skin and there are injectable forms. Oh, and in the US, testosterone is regulated as a Schedule III controlled substance (like Vicodin, for example), because it's technically a steroid.

Yup, AndroGel, I just picked up my prescription at the pharmacy....$291!!!! How much does my insurance pay of that $66! I haven't even applied the first dose (Says best time is in the morning after a shower) and I already feel F&#*#D!

On the other hand, as one of my friends who I confided this situation to said: "It's a good thing MIcheal Jacksons died when he did, because if he found out there was a 27yo BOY around...."
What, me worry?

You might want to analyze your diet as well to see if there's an opportunity to increase your testosterone levels naturally. For example, polyunsaturated fats lowers your testosterone level while monounsaturated fats raises it. Plenty of literature about this in bodybuilding circles. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m.../ai_n16598134/ to get you started. You should have an easier time getting lean now that you're correcting the issue.
