Hi,
Is there any way (hack or otherwise) that I can have Safari's Download window as a Tab instead?
Personally, for me, I would find this very useful instead of a window that keeps disappearing behind other stuff and suchlike.
Many thanks,
Matthew

Why not just drag the download window sideways so that it overlaps the browser window, making it possible to access it again by clicking it? You can also switch focus between windows with Command-`.

Not really. The tab metaphor works because all the tabs are basically equivalent, they just happen to show different URLs. OS X is not based on single-window metaphor - multiple windows are preferable for organization (Exposé) and consistency purposes.
If you want it in a drawer, on the other hand, I won't complain.

I understand its not Apple like (OS X like), but I think having downloads in a Tab would be great. The flaw there though is that if you have multiple windows with multiple tabs, would you really want the tab to follow your focus, or just be in one window?
The drawer concept I'm not a fan of, but if there was an icon I could push in Safari that would pop up the download window and hide it away, i would be content with that.

it was something i got used to and one feature that I loved and wish would be possible in safari...

Consider it incredibly unlikely that Apple will ever add it. They violate their own UI guidelines on occasion, but a downloads tab would likely be a too large a step even for them. It's not a violation of just any guideline - it's a break with the entire justification for tabs (which is sketchy at best). Your best bet would be a plugin, but I haven't heard of one that does this.

It should open when downloads start, and close when they end. Like Firefox.
