cheers

i take it that one has to buy the windows XP SP2 to make the windows partition on a new macbook.

they seem to be about 100 $$ at buy.com.

but it says 'upgrade'

does this mean one has to buy More than windows XP SP2? what should that cost?

I couldn't find a windows XP SP2 "full"

thanks

Boot Camp is supposedly specifically for XP, but I've seen talk of people using other operating systems through it.

Windows XP isn't needed to make the partition, but you do need a new (or at least unused) copy to load into the partition that Boot Camp produces.

That roughly $100 price from buy.com isn't bad-NewEgg wants $137. Of course if you're a student, you might be able to buy it for a LOT less through your university. My school has a campus agreement with Microsoft; I can buy ONE copy of XP for $18. Check it out with your school.

As far as I know, the Upgrade version will not work, because it will require you to provide a copy of a previous version of windows, during the install to prove you qualify for the upgrade.
Since you cannot eject the cd on a mac during the boot camp process, that will not work.

You need to buy a full version and they are available at buy.com

http://www.buy.com/prod/Microsoft_Wi.../20361034.html

they are more then the upgrade version though

Numerouse Workstations running windows and Linux. Sorry don't have the specs, I don't pay much attention to them anymore. :)

Can Boot Camp "see" external drives? That would be good information to have at hand.
