I have an iMac 24 inch, but for work I use a Del Latitude D600 laptop ( ). Is there any way to hook up both, so I can use my laptop with the iMac as screen ?

Tnx and best regards,
Christian.

actually . . there might be a way, but you'd lose major resolution . . . . hook up an eyetv, then hook up your laptop to that connection, then there you go . . .

This question comes up so oftern I wonder if Apple are missing a trick and should provide an external input to the display? (yes I can imagine many reasons for not doing it, but plenty for...)

in my humble opinion, they are missing a trick.

Maybe my iMac would be outdated in 3 years, but not a 24 inch display ?

yes guys, you can.

google for an app call 'screen recycler' i found it the other day, it's open public beta at the moment but runs out end of march i think... it basically creates a second [or third] screen as a vnc server session, and you can connect to it via your spare mac // laptop // PC with a vnc client....

et voila! the screen update isn't incredibly fast for me, but i've found that it really depends on network traffic, and combination of the screenrecycler server and what vnc client you use at the other end

seriously, it's a wicked app - check it out! i currently have three screens running off my 13" macbook, and really enjoying the view from my chair at the moment lol!

go have a lookie and check it out guys!

Original poster has a Dell laptop. However, if your laptop is a Macbook or Macbook Pro, the easiest solution is to boot the iMac from the laptop's drive using Firewire target disk mode.

Surprised no one mentioned it yet but if your laptop is running XP you can enable Remote Desktop and download the Remote Desktop Client for Mac from Microsoft. Not as good as a real screen but it should be okay for non graphics intensive applications.
