I have an imac from... six years ago. It is the older colored case kind.
Now, I'm wondering if there's anyway to get new software on this baby. I'd love to be able to use garageband and imovie etc. Is it possible?
Thanks

Putting the current version of iLife on an iMac that old is going to be all day long.
But yes, you can run the latest OS with Xpostfacto, and install iLife on top of that.

But iMovie and Garageband? Technically the answer may be yes, but please, don't do. You will not be able to use those two apps in any useful way.

You possibly could via Xpostfacto (as mduell mentioned) but it will end up killing the mac anyways. (Are we talking about the eMac? or iMac?). I think the older imacs might manage to handle it but the eMac, no way, it wont work
...At least i think....

If it is an iMac DV you can use iMovie, but it will take a long time to render more complex things and you may get problems with sound when you start doing clever thinge like having 3 tracks - well that's what I used to find - YMMV
