Congratulations on the new job! Imagine working in a Apple store...
Oh, and when you get "on the inside", could you please let Apple know, that I'm still waiting for that 12" macbook pro?

So does anyone else find the need for an Apple "genius" to be contrary to Apple's previous marketing campaign that "Macs just work?" If your Mac just works and is designed to be user friendly, then why the need to hire or consult someone who requires a genius level intelligence?

If you build something that's idiot-proof, nature will just build a better idiot.

I'm only 16, yet I applied to be an Apple Genius. I got invited to a group interview, which probably means there will be a lot of competition. I honestly am not quite sure whether I know enough. I am excellent at computer hardware (just the basic knowledge of it. eg. Apple uses the Penryn processor on their Macbook/Pro and iMac to you can put get a Blu-ray drive on your macintosh by installing an external optical drive, or an internal optical drive with an external enclosure hooked up to the computer using a Universal Serial Bus port or Firewire port, and running Blu-Ray software using Toast, HDD stands for Hard Drive Disk, SSD stands for Solid State drive which has a 0.1ms response time, etc.). I'm just not sure if I can fix computers properly way or whatever. I'm just a bit worried. I'm REALLY good at talking to people, I'm very polite, and very caring, just I'm not sure if I'm too young or if this is way over my head. btw, the interview is July 13, and I was wondering if any of you know what the basic pay is, and if you guys know whether I can possibly get this job. I REALLY want this job, I LOVE computers, especially Apple products, and I think this could be a great start to my computer career. I just don't want to embarass myself and feel like this job is too much for me. Thanks :-)

From reading your post, it sounds like you would benefit from a course that covers computer hardware, troubleshooting and maintenance. Since you're at the age (in the UK at least) where you'd be moving onto different colleges, you may be able to find a vocational course that you can do for a few days a week to fit it around work. Yes, they'll teach you PCs but the basics still apply, each platform just shows it in a slightly different way.
If you're good at talking to people, understanding their issues and helping them then you may have a good starting point for being hired for in store customer relations at which point you can start learning about hardware troubleshooting, repair & work your way up.
With all of that said, if you're good at picking things up as you go and learning quickly then you may be great as a genius, especially if you got to shadow someone for a week. You could quickly pick up on issues and their causes and then learn how to resolve them.

thanks, that made me feel a load better. Do you have any idea what the pay is as a genius? I applied for a lot of other jobs, and I may get one at places such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Micro Center, etc. I want a job that will have a smilliar type of layout (customer sales/repair/computer hardware and software), yet makes the most money and has the most benefits (highest employee discount, etc.) I need a job as soon as possible and the interview isnt' for another 8 days, so I would rather get a job sooner rather than later unless the pay is substantially more.

I imagine that you'd likely get hired as a full or part time mac specialist. If they do offer you the genius role it'd be at the bottom end of the salary scale, I've no idea what that is.
