Eh, I think they need to stay separate. Just because they both feature epic swords of slaying doesn't mean they're in the same universe, or need to be.

Did the D2 expansion increase the resolution to anything more reasonable? I never owned it.
Classic Diablo II is only 640x480. The expansion let you choose 800x600.

Interview over at 1up is here. Release date is 9/30/09!
Prepare to lose another year or two to the Diablo franchise.

Interesting stuff. The release date didn't seem to be from the Blizzard employee in the interview, just added by 1UP. Or is that date based off something else?

1up is still reporting the date as next month, however, Blizzard's site doesn't report a date at all. D3 is easily my most anticipated game this year.

I'd rather have StarCraft II.
Didn't like Diablo II as much as I liked Diablo - still completed both parts.

Ditto. Come on, Blizzard, screw WoW and Diablo — we've been waiting way longer for Starcraft II!

Sorry to aid in the derailing, but the Starcraft 2 battle reports have really impressed me. They haven't tried too hard to update the game, it still feels like Starcraft but it just looks a lot shinier and they didn't seem to go too overboard on new abilities.

Diablo III would be perfect if you could choose your path: Help the Light save the world, help the Evils destroy it. You could choose the Paladin, but depending on your path, you could end up as a Death Knight or something. Instead of auras that help people, they're all curses, sickness, debuffs, etc.

I’d be very surprised to see D3 released before Q2/2010.

wonder what the system specs will be like. i will be dropping in a radeon 4890 soon. probably the last vid card i'll put in my 2006 mac pro. hopefully that'll be able to handle maxed settings at 1920x1200, as well as for star wars: the old republic.

It looks like the speculation can finally come to an end; Blizzard has made it clear that we will in fact see two big releases in 2010... and unfortunately one of them is not Diablo 3. That's right, the game will be coming in 2011, or later.
Shacknews has the scoop. "Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has confirmed that just-revealed World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm and StarCraft II are the two titles the company expects to hit in 2010," the site reported.
article on ars
I’m almost sure we will see another WoW expansion (after Cataclysm) before Diablo III.
Sigh, money makes the world go round…

I thought they would have learned from WoW: nothing screws up a good PvE game like PvP.

I'm stoked about the PvP. I don't see how it effects the game adversely, either. There's no loot rewarded, it's not going to effect people who don't do it.

D2 was much better than D1 in the PVP regard. D1 you would be killed for no reason and all your gear stolen. D2 you at least had a warning, and your items didn't drop.

I was more concerned about how Blizz kept changing PvE abilities in WoW b/c of PvP complaints and fearful they'd do that with D3. But it doesn't seem that's the case based on how they're tweaking the talent system (no talent trees, so much more fine-tuning and customization of talents appears available). I'll reserve judgement for now.

I'm bummed about no Paladin. That was my favorite class in Diablo II. Diablo III doesn't do much for me.

My neighbor was out in LA from August-September mixing the audio. He showed me one of the cutscenes a couple weeks back in his home studio.

I can't help the bitter taste I get from the way this has been handled by Blizzard, if I wasn't such a huge fan of this series I would probably skip it on principle.

They are launching without PvP? So they are gonna sell an unfinished game? The Activising of Blizzard is complete.
I can't agree with the people who are screaming about "always-online" DRM. Blizzard has made it pretty clear that "always online" means you don't have to have two separate multiplayer and single player characters, which seems like a great idea.
