I only read a couple of his books, but many of the movies made from his books were a guilty pleasure for me.

Michael Crichton, Author, Dies at 66
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
NEW YORK (AP) -- The family of Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of such historic and prehistoric science fantasies as "Jurassic Park," "Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," says the author has died in Los Angeles.
Crichton died Tuesday at age 66. He had been privately battling cancer, his family said.
"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement.

I've always been a huge Crichton fan, since I saw Westworld the first time. Andromeda Strain was one of the first "grown up" sci fi stories/films, IMO. His book dealing with the global warming religion was very well documented, as usual. He will be missed.

Yeah great writer, I always learned something when I read his books. State of Fear was very good, I found Next even better.

I liked most of his books, I remember how fun was reading Airframe like ten years ago… Sad news indeed.

I'm a big fan too. Critchon was one of my favorite authors. I'm sad.

He had a few stinkers (Jurassic Park 2) but overall, I was a fan. And he was a huge Mac fan. RIP.

Add me to the fanbase. After I read Jurassic Park I went looking for anything of his that I could get my hands on.
If you haven't read it, his book Travels is a collection of anecdotes about his journey through Med School, Hollywood and the world. It gives a lot of personal insight into this terrific talent. He will be missed.

I really enjoyed Jurassic Park 2 (the book was entirely different from the movie, and generally much better)
RIP Crichton ... I was a huge fan

I enjoyed the Lost World book as well (especially compared to the movie). About the only thing I remember from the original Jurassic Park book is the detailed descriptions of vomiting.
I also enjoyed his autobio Travels.

I thought Teh Lost World was quite palatable. The talkie failed to meet expectations, clearly.

That sucks. Just the other day I was complaining about the predictability of his books, (scientists trapped in an unlikely situation and must fight to survive).
The Andromeda Strain is my all time favorite book. Seconded closely by Rising Sun.
