I don't know if this is the right forum, but I'll ask anyway.

Does the G4 processor encode mp3s faster than say a AMD Athlon 2400+? The reason I ask is because I recently downloaded itunes for windows (which absolutely rocks), but encoading a CD takes about 10-12 mins on my laptop. I want and Apple laptop, probably a pbook 12". Will that be faster than what I have now? I currently have a emachines 5310 (AMD Athlon 2400+, 40gb 4200 rpm, 512mb, 802.11g, 15.4 widescreen). Thanks for all the help in advance

first, it's how fast your cd drive is. If it is 52x then the max "burning" is 5.2, then after that the encoding is varied on the processor.

p.s. it takes 10-12 min on my imac dv.
So the pb would probably have a better ripping time, you should ask this question in the pb forum.
