Hey everybody, I'm going to get the brand new Macbook Pro and I am not 100% sure if you can upgrade the RAM after you buy the product...

Is the Unibody an obstacle or something.

1) Can you upgrade the RAM in the new Unibody macs?
2) How do you do it?
3) How much do 2 x 2GB 1066Mhz DDR3 RAM sticks cost?

You can install memory upgrades and I would download the manual from www.apple.com . I will be ordering mine from OWC for $139.

yes, like the hard drive its considered a user replaceable component

unlike the hard drive which is in the battery bay, you need to unscrew the bottom plate of the laptop.

around 150 but ymmv based on name brands vs. discount brands

i'm surprised no one has noted apple's change in attitude towards their memory pricing. you can buy the 4gb upgrade from the apple store for $150, which is virtually the same as the $130-150 third party options i have seen so far. granted, you don't get to keep your original 2gb, but this is a MAJOR change in pricing from apple's previous position on pricing memory, which used to be insanely overpriced!

anyway, if you don't want to pull apart (i.e. unscrew) the unibody you at least have a reasonably priced oem option now.

Of course you can.

Remove battery cover. Remove four screws at back, remove four screws under battery cover. Remove bottom shell. Insert DIMMs. It's a cinch.

Depends on the year/model. Apple's MacBook memory pricing a while back was also quite reasonable. This is not necessarily new.

For a couple bucks more (not that it really matters, since they're both out of stock), I'd recommend Crucial.

When I checked Crucial was out of stock - G.SKILL was cheaper and available. Now both have run out. Oh well. Newegg is being a bit lame lately.
