Hi everyone,
I got my iBook a few months back - not the fastest model, a G3 500 with 320mb RAM and 10gb HDD. I'm looking for recommendations on decent games I could play on it!
I like most games really, so suggest anything good that'll run at a decent speed on my machine.
Cheers,
Nick

diablo2 is a good time killer and will run on your iBook. STAY AWAY from any action/shooter/3D games because they will not run well.

here is a short list of games you should try with that ibook.
Age of Empires 2
Galactic Battlegrounds + Expansion
Civilisation 3
Starcraft + expansion
Diablo 2 + expansion
tony hawks pro skater 2
quake 3/urban terror mod (will run fine at 640x480x32)
baldurs gate/baldurs gate 2
The Sims + all the expansions
The list goes on.
Check out
www.aspyr.com
&
www.macplay.com
And have a look at the system requirements. Pretty much and game that your game meets the recommended requirements will run well on your machine. 1
The biggest bottleneck for you is your 8mb ati rage 128 video card. I have a g3 366mhz ibook (indigo) which is other than the clock speed exactly the same as your machine. The above game list runs ok (some games in os 9 only though).
For example, alien vs predator gold runs ok in os9 on my ibook, but pathetically in osx, and likewise for bg2.
I have tested gaming in jaguar on my ibook though because i now only use it for basic games like age of empires 2 and office applications and networking and browsing. My g4 imac is for everything else
Dont even touch games that state g4 or greater than an 8mb video card though, as they will be awful on your ibook.

MacBook Alu, 13", 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 256MB video
G5 Imac, 17", 1.9Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 128MB video, built in isight, airport and bluetooth
Indigo iBook, 366mhz; 320MB RAM; CD; FW; Airport

try star craft... should run quite good... even in OSX... all first person shooters will not run nicely on your mac... stick to the 2d games.

Anything by Aspyr or Pangea is a good start.
I don't go anywhere with my powerbook without my Tony Hawk game CD.
I also like Unreal Tournament (I have both versions, but like the original better than the 2003 version). One nice thing about the 1st version, doesn't require the CD after install. I can only carry so many CDs in my powerbook bag.
Here's my top ten Mac Game picks..no particular order.. Some picked because I don't have to lug around the CDs..a big plus for the port. user..
Tony Hawk 2 & 3 (both versions are great)
Unreal Tournament (original, CD not req)
4x4 Evo2 (nothing like 4x4ing it)
CroMag Rally (just silly fun)
Red Faction (if you can find it still, old but fun)
The Sims series (tired of it but its a classic)
SimCity 4 is out this week, a must get!!!
Quake 3 (not my fav but playable w/out CD)
Nascar 2002 (2003 is out, prob better!!)

Escape Velocity Nova. Not full of eye candy, but it is one entertaining game. And it will run like a dream on your iBook. It is a great game.

If you like FPS and want something with just a bit more, grab Ghost Recon. Sometime you want to shoot the other members of your team with the way they act but it's a GREAT game overall.
You'll probably have to tone the settings down a bit but even at the low settings it looks good.

Lode Runner II is several years old now and should be available at a great price.
Don't let it's age fool you: it gorgeous to look at and a blast to play. Many MANY levels, grouped in 5 different "worlds," and the levels engage your puzzle-solving skills as well as your quick-response abilities.
I think this game runs under Classic, but it does so seemlessly, and is the only reason I keep Classic on my system.
Secondly is Star Wars Pod Racer, where you race in those flying pods seen in the Phantom Menace movies. With practice, one can get really good at flying these things even using only the keyboard. Can't remember whether a graphics accelerator card is required... so check the minimum requirements before buying.
Believe me, you won't regret getting either of these games.

Aren't you guys ommiting a clssic 3rd person game? Ottomatic might run OK, yes? I would not recommend any other 3D shooter but I think this one was made for MAC and it should run. Just check the specs before you buy.

If you don't mind booting into OS 9, I'd recommend Deus Ex , Shogo MAD, DS 9: The Fallen and the Marathon series.
If you like thinking games I'd recommend Escape From Monkey Island (also OS 9 only). It is one of the best games ever. If you haven't played the Monkey Island series before, I'd recommend getting a copy of VPC and playing the PC versions of the Monkey Island series before playing EFMI so that you will understand all of the jokes. The PC versions of the MI games run pretty well under VPC (I played them on a PB G3/400 with 192 MB RAM).
If you are interested in only OS X games, then I'd recommend Elite Force, Freedom Force and No One Lives Forever . Elite Force and NOLF should run fine on a G3, but you might have to turn off most of the eye candy in FF in order to get it to run.

if your running the first 2 monkey island games the only system you should EVER consider running them on is an amiga, it has the best music and the pc version is dire next to it. Use maxuae to run it and it'll prolly be faster than VPC

I agree with mogura. Oni is an excellent
game. It is single player only though but
you can play it over and over and over again with out getting bored.

Oh and almost forgot. Try AVP if you are
into that kind of stuff. AVP is pretty
scary especially when you play as the
marine in the hardest dificulty.

Yeah, Oni sucked because Microsoft stole the creative souls of Bungie's game designer's and consigned them to a fiery pit in Hell.
Just admit that Bungie made a crappy game, and the name of that game was Oni.
