Can anyone help,

I have Mail 3 set up to download three email accounts on a fresh clean install of Leopard.
gmail
yahoo
.mac

what's funny is that that mail wont show the contents of my accounts when I select the inbox, but there are lots of emails in the separate accounts, no difference if I collapse the disclosure triangle.

What's worse is Mail wont quit, I have to hold down option to force quit

Its unusable at present and would love some help!

You probably has asked Mail to open your gmail account automatically.

Click on the help ? and do it manually.

Does anyone who knows what they are talking about have a solution for this?

Did you upgrade or install fresh? I don't think we have enough information to help you with your problem.

Does .Mac sync restore the other two email accounts? Check out the activity window ⌘0 (zero) when you open mail up and when your quitting, it might also help solve what mail is actually doing. My bet is something from the sync is causing your issue, since no one else has come forward with similar issues.

Are you using GMail as an IMAP or POP account?

When I set up my IMAP GMail account, it took Mail quite a bit of time to sync up with the 9000+ messages in the "All Mail" folder. If you're using IMAP and have a tanker truck of mail messages, expect it to do the same.

Yes. Delete your mail preferences. That did it for me.

Could you walk me through that process?

delete:
user/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

It killed all accounts except .mac, but I can set those up again.

Cheers Erik.

Hit Cmnd-0 to look at the activity when you try to quit. If found that Mail usually won't quit until the activity window is clear.

Thats "Command - Zero."
