Tiger Intro Movie:

The video is real.

The audio is not.

Note the "mod" in the time name.

Also, already posted.

I don't think that'd happen on restart, that just the initial setup movie when you install the OS or turn on a new computer for the first time.

I don't know if its for real or not. The video looks reasonable considering spotlight is a key feature of Tiger. But the music screams "no way" to me ... a little extreme for Apple to put as intro music for computers being bought by people from age 8 to 88.

Oh yea.. I don't think Apple will put this kind of music on the intro. The music itself wasn't bad, but I highly doubt that Apple would pick it.

Same. It makes more of an impact. Blows you away a bit more, if you know what I mean. The original music is crap, scrap it please apple.

Think it might be a bit late for Apple to scrap the music on the original, as it would seem Tiger has been declared GM, and has probably gone to production now...

Still, I like the original. Very, um, Tiger.

The modded version is good too, but BMW has already used this music in a commercial for their One Series. Infact, I think the person who modded that movie actually just used the sound track from that commercial, as I seem the remember the short version running for the exact same length...

This isn't a TV commercial designed to grab your attention; this is the welcome screen of a new household appliance/office workhorse/digital media center/typewriter/communications hub/etc.

That's exactly why it's not suitable for this particular task. Switching (or upgrading) is a scary thing for most people, even those with skill at this sort of thing. There's a lot of uncertainty involved, especiially for early adopters. Therefore, if you're going to have music, then you need music with a calming effect. Many things could be said to describe this modified piece, but 'calming' is definitely not one of them. Frankly, it makes the video seem somewhat ominous, particularly near the end with the large X logo. That's not the kind of user experience Apple wants, and I can't say I blame them.

Wow!! That would be really cool!

If Tiger was going to be used exclusively by 16-yr old techno kiddies, that is.

And yeah - 99.999% of all users will immediately associate the shaking desktop background with a speaker membrane ... not!

(hint: earthquake = inevitable desaster = not good)

Its interesting to see all the opinions on such a simple topic as the music playing in the vid. Keeps this forum interesting.

Also hard not to take it personally sometimes.

Isn't the music in the modded video the same music that BMW used in its 1-series adverts?

Not sure if this is for real.
Wow that's awful. Not only is the content wretched and very un-Apple, the audio and video encoding is extremely bad. Quite a feat to have it be 1/4 the resolution, half the duration, have lower audio quality, and yet have double the file size of Apple's video.

Lets just hope that the announcement is near also.

OK if Tiger is really this close to production and shipping... What the heck is going to happen at the WWDC? A tutorial of Tiger for everyone who already has it? Or maybe this really will be flushing out the more advanced features of Tiger and trying to get devs to make apps specially for it. Though perhaps we'll see Dual Core PowerBooks, and Dual Dual G5s? haha... riight. Anyway though, I'm looking forward to WWDC whatever it brings.

There is a new product for WWDC.

Another project manager observes, "Apple today is just like any other conservative company. Just managed the service implementation for a new product we will announce at MacWorld 2005. This should be a good year for Apple but it will not reflect in my salary or any kind of bonus I dream of receiving."

they should take the intro video a step further--make it part of the bootup process. goodbye would be the days of looking at a boring window with an aqua gauge listing the various services starting.

instead they can harness the new graphics technologies so you can have spotlight shine on every service that starts. welcome to macintosh...starting apache...starting window manager, etc. all rendered in real-time which can accomodate other services as they're added and removed.

game consoles like the playstation2 already have something slightly similar where the steps and processes are animated when it's turned on.

I think it would be a little too in-your-face to be seen every time you turn on your computer. When it comes to a computer's look & feel, less is more. A simple progress bar is fine, in my opinion.

Lots of hands-on workgroup sessions showing developers best practices for adopting Tiger technologies.
