I just got a 300 MHz blue clamshell iBook from my uncle, as it was his old laptop until he cracked the screen. It's got over 300 MB of RAM, and Panther runs on it. I've got a 12" G3/233 Wallstreet that's falling apart, but runs. What I'm hoping is that since the displays are the same size they they're the same make...could I swap the cracked one in the iBook with the working one from my old PowerBook?

Also, anyone have instructions (or the Apple manual) on how to dissassemble the iBook top? I've already taken apart my PowerBook G3 a number of times for different stuff (like the power port snapping and stuff). I'm getting a new 15" AlBook on Monday, but I'd like to fix up this iBook and give it to my girl.

Thanks all

Edit: I got the iBook apart. The LCD is a Samsung LT121SU-123

Sweet! The models are only a letter different, so I figured they were in the same family. The Wallstreet's LCD had the same characteristics as the cracked one, except that the inverter connector was slightly different. I pulled the metal clips out from the connector and pushed them into the proper plugs on the existing connector, secured it with a piece of electrical tape, powered up the machine... lo and behold, I have a new original iBook :-P

Update me here.. The screen res is the same as the original iBook screen? Or its better now with this new screen?

I miss my old graphite 466 SE iBook.. One of the coolest looking old macs there is
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

It's the same resolution...I did nothing but swap a broken screen with a working one that was barely different.

so 1024x768 on the iBook now?

I own the 300Mhz blueberry iBook, however the screen is in pink now. I really want a new screen on it. It got 544MB of RAM and Panther on it now.

Not sure how much is the screen will be and while exact model. I searched the Apple parts/config site (restricted site).. and they have different makes and models of the displays.

No, it's still limited to 800x600, just like the original machine.
